new visor

Recommended Posts

i just finished minor hockey this year and i am going to begin playing junior, therefore i need get a visor. i have never used a visor before so i have a lot of questions. i have researched it a little and it looks like the most popular are the oakley and itech visors.

-which of these 2 companies makes the best visor as far as low maintenance (ie: doesnt fog/scratch much) is concerned?

-which company is typically cheaper for the same style visor?

-and last but not least, if i go with itech is it better to get the style with the replacable "glass" (for lack of a better term) or is it a different material than in the other itech visors?

thanks and sorry if these questions sound dumb!

1. They're about the same, in terms of care.

2. Itech is usually cheaper

3. Going with the HX50 makes it more expensive for the initial purchase, I haven't checked the replacement glass cost.

I've used both brands and the only difference to me is that Oakley makes a much smaller model, the Straight Small. The Itech HS22 and HS22 Wave are both very similar to the Oakley visors.

The HX-50 is about $10 more than any of the Oakleys but its replacement visors about only about $20-$25 a piece. I generally hear that the Oakleys are a better overall visor though. Some people say the HX-50 has some fogging issues.

I think they use the same technology though. Im pretty sure it says on the box but I threw mine away.

As for fogging issues the hx50 visor only fogs up if you're in the locker room after a game.

I use the HX50 visor and have no complaints. In fact, it would seem the entire Canadian Hockey League uses them so I gather that's a sponsorship agreement thing.

Cheers,

JJ

They have to use them. I've heard that they're going to change the design.

You should check the regulations of the league you're entering before buying a visor. They may have specific rules on certified visors. Usually, any visor that only attaches to the side of the helmet is not certified. If you're that antsy to get a visor ahead of time, I recommend buying one that attaches on the front and sides of the helmet.
