USA Hockey doesn't permit removaal of the earpieces. In fact it was a point of emphasis at the ref clinic last year.

i play prep school in USA and we dont have to have them

is this because we use NCAA rules?

I played against some kid on Loomis Chaffee that had dreads unnder his helmet, he had earpeices in, that must get hot as hell, and just annoying.

i don't see how that kid could pull that off. They were pretty hot with them stick out the sides. That would be horrible. It;d deive you nuts.
