I couldn't agree more.

Technical guy:

Satriani - more soul in his playing than any of the others and you can actually hum along with some of his songs.

Blues guy:

SRV - great tone, and should still be around. I love where he was headed as he was cleaning himself up.

Wildcard:

Clapton - Cream, Blind Faith, Derek and the Dominoes plus a solo career. Recorded some of the best solos in the 60's, 70's and 80's.

1. Eric Clapton, I don't know if he is the best guitarist ever, but he is without a doubt my favorite. Listening to his solos gives you goosebumps.

2. Stevie Ray- Great player, leave it at that.

3. My Wildcard pick- Yngwie Malmsteen, amazing soloist, great player.

Any reason why? The man didn't have ANY training in anything musical, he picked up a guitar and started a whirlwind in rock and roll. For pure, raw talent, the man can't be matched, as far as technical playing goes he's pretty low on the list.

I think Tommy Emmanuel is the best guitarist of all time easily. He opened for Clapton once and even he said it. The guy isnt to popular, but he is amazing. He could shred an electric guitar, but yet he decides to destroy on acoustic.

Looking back at my list I should have thrown in Angus young for pure riff writing genious and amazingly effective solos. My be short, but very sweet. Also Dimebag Darrel. Man he cud play.
