Anyone here like to gamble? Sports bets, blackjack, poker?

Personally, I like to play poker once in a while but not much recently and when I go to the casino play the table games like blackjack and roulette etc.

Every year I bet a six pack on whether or not a dilapidated house nearby will collapse (we get a lot of snow). I always lose. That's about it.

College football betting is my fall hobby, usually I switch to college basketball in the winter. Been doing exceptionally well 4 weeks into the season, although it is inevitable the law of averages will catch up to me. Trying my best to stay out of the local casinos around here, craps tables are a weakness of mine.

While not an expert gambler, I seem to have better luck with craps than I do with blackjack. Even playing by "the rules" I have more bad luck than good with blackjack.

My issue with craps is I tend to veer from my strategy and begin to make bad bets (I guess I just can't resist the lure of fast $). Though I did make some nice money before the Tiger game last Thursday, which made for an interesting afternoon at the game. I tend to stay away from blackjack, especially at the downtown Detroit casinos. Too many clueless people making horrible decisions that end up costing everyone at the table. Factor in relatively high table minimums and that is a recipe for disaster.

The key is to make "bad" bets with their money, not yours.

Had a huge weekend betting on the Breeders Cup. Cleaned up on the Turf sprint race, after all was said and done I cashed my ticket for $740. Bet the race on Friday afternoon and completely forgot about the race. Checked my phone Saturday while I was at a post game football tailgate, remembered that I bet the race and then realized I won. Needless to say, I picked up the celebratory bar tab and dinner.

I do roulette and blackjack.

Roulette is a fun ''sit back and let it do it's thing'' game while blackjack is all strategy.

I have a buddy, yeah, a buddy, not me of course, who has made some good side money betting on NFL games. He said the best method was to pick 4 or 5 games per week with teams you know the best. He starts following 8 to 12 teams in the pre-season and uses those as bellwethers. His success rate in 2010 was 64% over nearly a full season. However, I, I mean he, makes it clear to only bet what you can afford to lose.

Leaving for Las Vegas early tomorrow morning, going to be using Vegas as a base for our weeks events. Going be a relatively short but interesting trip with the crew I'm going with. I do have a betting slip worth a few hundred from a college football future bet I had a friend make a couple months ago, which is enough bankroll to at least get things going.

One of the biggest gambling days is upon us with the Super Bowl. I tend to stay away from betting the actual game line. Usually take a few of the prop bets and get a few squares. Depending on what the final moneyline ends up at I may put a little on that.

Another big gambling holiday is upon us with the NCAA tournament. Most years our group heads to Vegas for the festivities but it was a no go this year with our recent trip there and LA for New Years. Too tough for everyone to get away again. Outside of the usual brackets I'll make a few bets, have a couple games I'm liking. But by this time tomorrow, I'll likely break from my plans and have something on just about every game. Happens every year, best to just sit back, enjoy it as entertainment, and let things fall where they fall.
