Sorry to hear of the bad service and I hope you get satisfaction. But what the f-- is a "hoon"?
-
Exactly right and awesome response! Sounds like the douchebag got exactly what he deserved!

Wise decision, grasshopper. And if I may be so bold as to add one of my own... males who bitch about females... if you don't like 'em, join the other team

OMFG!!! That thing should be X rated! Will no one think of the children!!! I think that might be the funniest thing I have EVER seen! They should call it like the Jack-U-Blast or something. HAHAHAHAHAHA!!!!!! I'm dyin' over here!

Careful with that video, dude... that thing almost killed me when I saw it on TV! I swear, I laughed so freakin' hard I damn near passed out! Just thinking about it gives me the giggles for an hour. Holy shit, like the best commercial in YEARS! But will no one think of the children?!?!
-
Maybe! LOL

+1 Drove an hour and ten minutes each way yesterday and aside from me and the friend I went with, there were only 3 other people there and they were all 13 or less. Now granted, one of the 13 year-old kids was pretty good and we played some fun 1 on 1 for a while (had a blast poke checking him until he realized this old broad was actually going to make him work for it). But then my friend pulled a hip flexor when she caught a rut and went down awkward, so that really ended the night on a lousy note.

FBV is Blackstone's Flat Bottom Vee. X6, X7 are Blademaster's alternate dressing which have more like a regular ROH but with a flat bottom.

Well, defective gauge is always a possibility. Have you tried another?
-
When getting different readings on each side, check these things, in my personal estimated order of likelihood: 1. Burr. Yeah, I know you said you checked it. It can't hurt to check again. 2. Metal particles stuck to magnets on gauge. Always annoying and happens a lot. Will totally fork a reading. 3. Metal particles on blade. Wipe the blade with a rag before checking. Ground off particles often become magnetic and can annoyingly stick in place sometimes. 4. Grooves worn into contact faces of gauge from repeated applications to sharp blades. What you've probably got is one of those four things screwing up your reading and the true reading is quite possibly between what you're seeing on each measurement. Definitely figure out why your reading is screwed though and don't accept it until the reading from each direction is pretty darn close. Sometimes you can even see that the part that sticks to the side of the blade isn't sitting flat - that's an immediate clue that you've got a particle stuck to the magnet or the blade.

100/50 certainly works well for me - I love that profile. It does feel a bit more like a 5/8 ROH than a 1/2 ROH, imo, but the transition was easy and the benefits very noticeable.

What were you doing with your back to the play in the first place?

Not for long. Here are the best available projections, based on computer models of the currents:

Not only that, but from what I hear, we've seen the last of spring break on FL beaches, too... unless you like your bikini-clad co-eds covered in tar, that is :( On the bright side, it probably means no more Miami Vice sequels <_<

I don't do extra passes in the middle, but I have noticed a natural tendency to hit the toe and heel harder if not very careful. I just try to be aware of that tendency and keep my pressure very even throughout the pass so that equal material is removed along the whole length. But no question, it is all too easy to hit the ends harder and one definitely has to avoid that outcome.

X01 is absolutely worth the price. Learning curve took a while, but not too bad. Get a spare wheel and use some old steel to start.
-
One thing I found helped with checking edges was doing your stoning first. Getting the burr off the edge seems to make for a much more accurate reading.
-
That is correct. When putting the spinner onto the screw, the inscription side goes on first.
-
The clamping force would only affect the level of the blade if you have an interference between the boot and the jig or maybe between the skate's holder and the jig. Definitely double-check that, as it sounds like your problem lies there. For tightness, I bring the screw down to just touch and then pull the lever to a little more then 45 degrees. If I haven't run the screw all the way down, it sometimes comes up closer to vertical, but it shouldn't be that critical - just make it nice and snug.

Blackstone also now sells their calibration block (part number U-BLK) for resetting the holder. It sounds like you've been round the block a few times with adjustments, so it might not be a bad idea to reset it back to factory default using the calibration block and then start again.

Haven't put mine on yet. The pink is as smooth as silk and I'm liking it quite a bit, as long as I don't have a lot of damage to remove. I'll try the ruby as soon as I go through the pink.

Wow, and I thought I was a nerd :P Glad I'm not the only hockey playing nerd in the world :)

Ooops. I guess that would be my bad too - I didn't realize we were on a test basis. Sorry for the premature info dump, Steve.

That's exactly the problem, orange just cuts way too much. I have a pretty soft touch, but its still very hard to take as light a pass as I would like and it rarely takes me more than 3-4 passes with the orange wheel to complete the job. Looking forward to the control I'll get with a finer wheel. Awesome feedback, thank you.
-
Very good to know - thank you! I'm hoping both new wheels will give a better finish than that standard orange wheel? I just don't care for that one at all - seems to coarse and too quickly worn out.
