I think they must have made the tri-lie holder standard and increased the price to compensate. I ordered the tri-lie as an add-on when I got mine and it does have the ball handles, just like the picture. Before the price increase, it used to come with a regular holder and the tri-lie was optional.

Maybe you just need a pair of gloves to get the monkey off your back

Installers came today to put in 3 windows and a sliding door. Thought sure I was going to have a vent by the end of the job, but they actually finished a day early and $1000 under budget! That NEVER happens!

Drove 4 hours to Boston to see a dental specialist for a 1pm appointment and the bastard decided to cut out at lunch time and ditch my appointment without warning! Wait till that f***er gets the bill for my time and travel!

Those gloves are freakin' awesome! Daaammmnnn :jealous:

Shoulder I dislocated last year is finally healed enough I can start taking backhand shots again - yay! Of course, after 9 months with hardly any backhand shots, I've got some work to do to say the least

My first tournament of the year, a 3 on 3 fundraiser thing, got canceled because they didn't get enough teams registered

More likely something about the way they were done this time, like a burr maybe, than anything to do with the profile, imo.

That is very interesting, because I am having that exact experience (the negative one you described) with my FBV. With the 100/50, I can stop hard, but I have a very difficult time modulating for a softer stop. It is also hard to transition from biting to sliding with the edge, as when you first enter a stop - it doesn't want to break grip. With the 90/75, I can modulate my stops perfectly, but I don't get quite enough bite and I find I lose my edge in sharp maneuvers. After a conversation with Ryan at Blackstone, he suggested I try the 95/75 as the solution. That disappointed me, as I did not think that spinner was available for the X series machines. But after talking to Gerard today, it turns out that it IS available, even though it isn't listed on the website. So I've got a 95/75 spinner on the way and I'll know in a week or so if it gives me the perfect balance of bite and control that I am looking for. Gerard said they had some other of the newer profiles available as well, so for you X series owners, it is worth a call or email to find out if they have the one you want, if you want to get outside the original 4 profiles.

Because then then the 14yo guys would wonder why they don't make it 14-24.

If I were faced with that same decision, I would take my own ROH sharpening over someone else doing FBV any day. There is just no substitute for doing a perfect job yourself. The confidence and consistency would way outweigh any performance difference, imho. That having been said, my machine does both and I do notice a considerable speed difference with a nicely done FBV and I find that I can use an FBV which is equivalent to a much shallower ROH than I actually used. I skated on 1/2" ROH and now use 90/75 FBV which is supposedly more like 5/8" or 3/4", so the total improvement in glide and decrease in energy expenditure is significant for me.

Some bender took my feet out from under me from behind over the weekend and I re-injured my left hip. Don't know if its bursitis, hip pointer, bruise or whatever, but damn it hurts. It's been hurt before, but just painful. This time its actually affecting the movement of the joint, which really pisses me off. I couldn't care less about pain, but when I'm functionally affected, THAT pisses me off.

That sucks, man. Sorry to hear that :-(

Definitely a goalie-only sharpen. Might be physically possible on a player blade, but just barely; the edges would be close to non-existent.

Fwiw, if you feel like doing a bit of soldering, you can probably fix it. It's usually bad capacitors that kills them and I've fixed a couple just by replacing a few caps.

Maybe your new wheel isn't quite round yet? Sometimes there is a slight eccentricity that takes a few dressings to fully resolve. You could rotate the wheel by hand (with the machine unplugged, obviously) and see if there is any variation in the markings. If so, a couple more dressings might take care of it.

I take my best shot with witness marks and then take a couple passes. Quick knockdown of the burr with a coarse stone (100 grit) and check the edges with my edge checker. Adjust to correct if necessary, another couple of passes if I had to change the holder, then a final pass and 220 grit stone. As was pointed out, witness marks can be deceiving sometimes, so I just do them to make sure I'm in the ballpark. But taking a couple passes and measuring will always let you know where you stand.

Wow, you ain't kidding. I'm a mechanical engineer, I own an X01, and I use FBV all the time. But that charge just makes me dizzy! And we don't actually have all those options for FBV profiles either, do we?

Took apart a dead 21" LCD monitor, replaced all its bad capacitors, and brought it back to life! Now I have a dual monitor system instead of a piece of electronic garbage!

That sucks. I hope the recovery is quicker than expected and you get back on the ice soon.

Sorry to hear of the bad service and I hope you get satisfaction. But what the f-- is a "hoon"?
-
Exactly right and awesome response! Sounds like the douchebag got exactly what he deserved!

Wise decision, grasshopper. And if I may be so bold as to add one of my own... males who bitch about females... if you don't like 'em, join the other team

OMFG!!! That thing should be X rated! Will no one think of the children!!! I think that might be the funniest thing I have EVER seen! They should call it like the Jack-U-Blast or something. HAHAHAHAHAHA!!!!!! I'm dyin' over here!
