Pat I think it comes down to how much money do you have? If you've got an extra grand or two over the price of the car I'd do it, but I think when buying an older performance/modded car is that you've gotta have that 'rainy day' fund if shit goes south. This is especially important if its your daily driver.

College or HS? I agree HS one is not really necessary. If they are insistent though ask for a nice watch or piece of jewelry (ring, chain whatever you wear) that you can have engraved with from mom and dad or whatever. My mother got me a very nice watch and had it engraved and it will be something I hold on to forever and let you reminisce about them if needed. It's high school. I really want to just ask for like $50 on a gas card so they'll stop asking. I think they feel bad 'cause they got my sister some cool stuff when she graduated, but times were better financially and I'm not the jealous younger brother. Things could be a lot worse and they're co-signing on my college loans so I really don't need anything.

Having 3 classes left in the year is great. Trying to convince the rents that no, I do not need a grad present, is a tough one however.

This came out during the booster club banquet a few weeks ago. The first time in my career I busted up my face. I was proud of the blood on the ice after, however. The dental bill....not so much.

Honestly, don't think a VW is like a luxury car because it is German. It is the Honda of Germany, except its not as reliable. I've heard great stuff about the Cobalt SS, but the Civic sounds like you're best bet as it seems it is more of an A-to-B car for you.

The early ones(01-02) had valve, bearing, and oil pump problems which were all fixed under recall and in the newer cars. Who knows, I may just ditch the project all together. The CLK63 Black Series is looking pretty tempting right about now. I hear you. I saw one of those clk's in Boston last week, but I'm not really a Mercedes guy.
