K so I caved and went and bought the FV1 at hockey monkey today. I also double caved and bought a 710 helmet because it fit miles better than my 11k, which now after putting on a medium 710, was grossly ill fitting. I also have that Tron hybrid coming today too so I will probably try the FV1 tonight and and if it works really well, just return the Tron.

Looking for P28 type curve that's a bit more closed
z1ggy replied to Ryan91330's topic in Ice Hockey Equipment
Will do. Have like... 3 or 4 other P28's that I can put right next to my P90T. -
I think I could test it 50% in the house... simply for fit and weight. But the fogging issue I can't test unless I'm in a rink really...
 -
Well, can't hurt to try it out. Might be fake reviews but it's got good stats on Amazon. I'd rather have heavy and fog free than foggy and lighter I guess. I like how the shield is a little "flatter" too like a motorcycle helmet, and not all rounded like some kind of NASA space helmet lens. Will places like Pure or hockey monkey take returns (Even if just for store creds) if you're not satisfied with a product? Edit: Also, kind of off topic a little but does anybody know anything about a seller/online store called "Mystery South".com? I have found the FV1 on this website for sale, but also a tonnnn of other retail gear for less than retail pricing from other big box stores. I'm pretty sketched out by this but maybe they can reduce the price a few bucks because they have lower overheads?

Could just be me but I had FT1 and FT2, no lace bite. I have a low instep though so if yours is high(er), then maybe you will get lace bite. I would agree about dropping 1 eyelet on CCMs... I dropped the top on both FT1 and FT2, skates were border line unusable with them tied.

I think I'm going to try out the Tron P290 hybrid shield. It's only $50 and everywhere I look, has really good reviews, unlike some of the other "big OEM" bubbles that people complain about fogging and whatnot. Ideally I'd like the full clarity of the bubble but we'll see what the hybrid is like. If I can find a spot where I could easily return the FV1 I'd buy it just to try it out.

Looking for P28 type curve that's a bit more closed

I really don't think it's drastically different from P28. I have both and held both up side by side before my game Sunday night. I could barely tell a difference other than the toe kink you describe. P90T seems slightly more closed but when I was shooting and stick handling I really couldn't tell much apart. I just noticed my shots not rising up like crazy using P90T, which was good. I can post some side by side pictures later if it helps. -
What size V08 is it? My Helmet is a Large so I figure a one size fits all might run a little on the small-ish side. I'm kind of between head sizes too, I could probably rock a medium helmet but expand it out to fit as wide/long as possible. My L helmet is pretty much set to the smallest settings and fits pretty well. Could also be time to size up a new helmet... I do find sweat gets into my eyes A LOT with the 11k. I'll be at pick ups and whatnot and pretty much have to come off the ice to find myself wiping sweat out of my eyes mid shift. Annoying. Also, anybody here try the Ronin MK5 or the Tron Hybrid?
 -
Would the FV1 fit a Reebok 11k? I don't really need a new lid yet... Some of the inside padding is starting to come loose, but it's still in working shape. I don't want to spend money for a CCM helmet if I don't have to. I'm really looking to try out a bubble but these are border line impossible to find gently used online.

Not sure if anybody commented yet but I just picked up a pro stock FT2 with a P90T curve and I put it next to my pro stock QRL with a P28 and it pretty much looks like a P28 but with a slightly more closed blade. Baaaaarely noticeable but on ice I noticed my shots were staying just a touch lower. With regular P28 I easily can put wrist and snap shots over the cross bar, but all my shots last night with P90T were staying mid to mid high. I think it's also a touch easier to take backhands with this curve also. Possibly my new favorite! -
So the HP45X in medium is a success.True to their nature they are pretty anatomical fitting but as far as waist size goes, I think it's perfectly fine. Large would have been way too big, especially if other guys here are alluding to that weight differences are like 15-20 pounds, as far as how much bigger a person would be for each size. I think I'm going to buy a pair of HP70X on PSH just for fun since there's a medium pair for only $80. Doesn't hurt to have a backup pair.
 -
No I'm not in QRL pants, I'm in QLT pants (CCM Quick Lite). I'm same height as you but I weigh 195lb with a 34 pant size. Unless you got even thicker a$$ and legs than me, you probably are a size 36 or 38 pant, so this makes sense as to why HP45 medium are crazy tight for you. I'm surprised though the large CCM are as loose as they sound though. I expect the medium HP45's to me snug fitting but not choking my waist and legs. I have to literally pull the strap on my large CCM retail pants as tight as it can possibly go, so I'm not too worried about mediums being crazy small. Sounds like suspenders plus the medium Warrior would be the best fit though for you. Sounds like I might even need to get smalls if I go with Warrior Franchise pro stock.
 -
I ordered the HP45X in medium and they should be here relatively soon. I'll give my thoughts on sizing after I get it. For the heck of it, I may buy some Warrior Franchise pro stock and also HP70. I spoke with a customer sales rep from PSH and he said based on my info on the QLT Large pants I have being very loose in the waist, that a medium HP45x would be fine. As far as your situation if the medium are way too tight then you pretty much have to go with Larges and use suspenders. You could also try HP70 as PSH told me the waist is a little more traditional fitting in the same size as HP45. For info, I am a 34 pant size in most clothing.

^ to my eye it definitely looks like the "outsole" wraps into the heel area but we'll see if it's a true one piece boot. I wasn't impressed at all by the 2X toe cap compared to how my Mako's were. Even my True toe cap is just the boot material and requires me to make custom powerfoot inserts to get that cushy feel.
 -
hahaha XD oh yeah I totally forgot about the shells...Is there a preferred one that's very minimalist that just slides over the full hockey pant? I'd only need it for making my outer color to be black.
 -
Yes seems you're right about the PSH return policy... Which is kind of odd to me. If you don't use something and it doesn't fit you right, why wouldn't you be able to return? I'll try to ask once they answer my fitment question, although after researching most of today, I kind of figured it all out on my own. It's too bad my team wears black pants.... there's tons of blue/red and other off colors for the X version of ccm pro stock... not tons of black on there.
 -
Yeah I definitely am looking to get out of retail pants; I watched a review recently on youtube about retail CCM pants vs pro stock Reeboks and how much better this person says pro stock is. I sent an email to PSH to see if they can offer any insight but I do see a few pair of pro stock Franchise pants available on HM.com, too. I think PSH also takes returns for credits so I may end up buying 3-4 various pairs to try on and return the rest. Edit: Is the HP70C mean more padding like HP45X does? From what I can read online, the 45x is more protective albeit with the less traditional fit. Thx for the help.
 -
Yeah I saw those. I tend to like a more traditional fit though, aren't covert's a bit more snug? I have more of a medium/stocky frame with a wider torso/legs, I've had 'anatomical' fitting pants before and not really liked them that much. Also, do you have experience with HP45X? How about Warrior Franchise pro stock? Edit: Based on what I just read in a past thread, I think I'd be wanting Franchise over the Covert line. I got me some thiiiccc hips and legs, strongly prefer more room in those areas. I'm the same height as you, but 34'' waist at 195lb.
 -
Old thread but I'm bringing it back from the depths because I'm trying to decide if I want to buy HP45X or UCLX pants to replace my CCM QLT pants (I think these are some model of RBZ?) I find the padding in my current pants not adequate and that they run a little bit big. I'm pulling the strap as tight as possible on them... They are size L and I usually take 34 waist pants. I find the leg length pretty spot on. Am 5 10 195lb. Any suggestions on sizing between the two? I tend to like slightly beefier/bulky pants and as much protection as possible. People in my league love to hook/slash the crap out of you and have no qualms about clapping one right at you.
 -
Gotta agree here. I was so used to how tight retail skates (or loose) were on me, when I got my True's I thought they were horrible fit. Turns out they needed just a mild tweak, essentially only because my fitter decided to not shrink wrap me right off the bat. Once I had them baked and wrapped... they felt so good on the ice. The way the skate fits is just not the same as your retail 1X or FT2, etc. Now that I've spent a few hours in the boot, I'm 100% used to it and I'm all about it. As long as your fitter scanned you properly I see no reason why the boot would be a really bad fit. Little tweaks are to be expected still IMO. I've never had a single skate my entire life that didn't need some kind of adjustment.
 -
My fitter also put my foot in the size gauge and took a picture of it and sent that along with my filled out form and my scan. This way, there should be 3 methods of confirming the boot length. The length for me was literally spot on, I was extremely impressed. Anybody who is getting a boot that's more than 1/2 size off probably had a mistake made by True in that they literally made you somebody else's boot by mistake (seems unlikely) or your shop guy made a boo-boo somehow. Regardless, your shop just saying oh well here's a refund, go away... that's very sketchy and makes me think they might not know what they are doing. Like i mentioned pages ago when I was going through this process, my shop told me they have made over 500 pairs with no real issues. And I believe them too because my other choice was an even more expensive pair of custom FT2, and they convinced me to go with True, so...It wasn't like they were up selling me True.
 -
I just can't see myself spending $300 for a stick that will break in a few months. I never had the blade chipping issues because I fully tape off my toe but something that light does worry me. I heard the 1X lite's had horrible durability. So far, none of my Warrior sticks have ever broken.. I tend to replace them when they start to lose their snappy feel.
 -
Yeah I hear that the Bauer's are breaking really easily...but is there something about being able to return them now up to 1 year?? Everybody feels and uses words differently... by "Dead" do you mean really stiff? Or dead as in, you have a hard time tell where puck it on your blade while stick handling. Also, are most pro stocks heavier than retail? I have a prostock QRL and it feels like a tank compared to the stock flylite I used the other day. The Warrior feels pretty indestructible but for the days where I am out on the ice practicing for 2-3 hours stick handling and shooting, the reduced weight would be cool.
