It felt pretty stiff still but I'll compare to the other skate when I get home.  It sounds like something about the size of a screw, my first thought was a rivet head but I'm pretty sure it's physically impossible for that to fall in there, just wasn't sure what sort of hardware was inside.

There is a tin screw with an allen head. Its used to put pressure on the mechanism which regulates the tension on the trigger. What sucks is the only way to check is to unmount the holders unless you want to drill a hole in the heel of the skate. 😞

Hi, there. I know it has been discussed before but still... Is mirror like finish achievable on X02 at all? What do our experts can say? Looks like no matter what I try I can not get the finish as good as it is done on the professional machines...

The glide is good.I am talking about visible part. Just need to know so I can let it go or continue my quest for the perfect mirror finish-)).

Yes, should not be a problem. Are you using any oils or glaze? Are you doing a slow final pass?

Any comparison to vapor, supreme, or QRE.  I’m looklng for a slim style pant and didn’t know how these lined up.   Also, what are your measurements for mediums.  I’m right between sizes.  6 foot, 190, 33 inch waist.  Thanks so much for the help

I think these are slimmer than most any other pant I have used. Definitely slimmer than the QRE and Vapor, and slightly slimmer than the CCM FT1 and Supreme.

I wear a small in most brands as a medium is too big but int he STX I need to wear a medium. I am 5'11 and 180lbs. 32" waist and 31" inseam.

Have no interest in these holders, but from a shop perspective do the holes line up with LS Edge or SB 4.0? Weight significance and no choice of steel are 2 major turn offs.

They mostly line up.... But they are a nightmare to mount since they are carbon and have zero flex.

  5. We started to get people bringing them into the shop for installation this week. These things are difficult to mount and the holder weighs a ton and has zero flex in it. I weighed a size 272 holder and it comes in at 394 grams. The factory VH holder with STEP steel is about 100-120 grams lighter. A TUUK LS Edges with Byonic  steel is about 150 grams lighter. Based on how rigid the holder is I fear it will break eventually or yank the rivets out of the boot. I guess we will see in time. I mounted three pairs over this last week.

That's my recollection of how the VacuTacks worked back in the day.  The boots came without the blades, and (unless I'm mis-remembering) were heated before being placed in a vacuum bag.

Yes, but this machine does not create a vacuum, removing the air from the bag.

It inflates. Creating pressure on the skates to form to your foot.

My concern and hesitation with the sleeve design is that it will smell like crazy after 6 months or so of play. I air out my gear regularly and use one of those portable dryers, so my gear just has a slight odor, but the under layers really reek! Despite the anti-odor claims, they smell so bad that, at this point, laundry only makes them smell good for 1 wear. I can't imagine forcing something like that to be sawn onto my gear. Traditional elbow pads without sleeves seem so much easier to maintain.

Hopefully you aren't washing your gear on hot and drying it. If so, you have damaged the entire anti-microbial properties of the game wear.

It's the reverse actually, the CCM shell that comes with the Super Tacks girdle has velcro. It also has additional padding around the hip/kidney area. The Bauer has no extra padding and no velcro and the belt is right at the top of the shell, tightening just below the kidney/hip pads on the girdle (or pants if you put it over regular pants).

You could stitch some velcro to the Bauer's without a lot of work though.

The Bauers just seem to disappear when wearing them - once the belt is tightened you just forget they are there. Which I think is why I prefer them to any other shell I've worn.

Interesting, I had the S190 pant and the MX3 and those shells had velcro, from what I can recall, so I assumed it was still the same.

Maybe try one of the new Tacks girdle shells?  I have a small pro stock one that I wear with my medium girdle and it is a much more tailored fit than my other shells which are all medium (Both Warrior and CCM shells).  The Tacks one has a length adjustment which I let out and helped with the length.

The Bauer (Currently Nexus) shells are very well made and well shaped, I've found. A lot of other shells don't follow the contours of a girdle or pair of pants very well, and the zipped legs are great if you want a bit more space around the thigh.

My big thing is I want the velcro tabs that hook on to the girdle. I think Bauer has these but CCM does not. Can you confirm?

I just had my second skate with the as1 and it was night and day better. No pain at all. I wore the skates inside the house for probably 2-3 hrs at a time the last two days and it def made a huge difference.  I realized that alot of the issue was due to tightening the laces too much which I didn't think would be an issue. I literally had to tie them the same way as with my trues, which was barely any tension.

I put some duct tape over some areas on my foot that were rubbing/pinching and it worked wonders. Was really able to enjoy the skates. My left pinky toe does rub against the ridge of the toe box where it meets the boot though. Not sure why CCM designed it so there's nothing covering that area which is just hard raised plastic. ... I don't think that area can be punched out and it's too tight to get in there to and or file down. It didn't cause pain but a bit annoying feeling it.

This exact area has been a problem for a few customers of ours and we have to send CCM the skates back to have larger toe caps attached. You cant punch that area of the boot properly.

I tried reseating the blade, but the noise was still there. I added a small piece of resilient plastic tape at the top of the blade, and all of the creaking is gone (after lacing it up on dry land). I'll actually skate on it tonight and see how it goes, but it's good to know that the sound and the feeling was coming from the holder and the blade, and not from the rivets or the skate itself. Crazy how that tiny little bit of space can make the whole boot feel off.

That black line mark shows much it moved in and out.

Maybe TRUE was trying to make your specific steel/holder be like BladeTech....

    https://www.bladetechhockey.ca/

More interesting is they offer steel for the TRUE/VH holder now too.

  12. I know vacuum fitting is popular in a lot of sports like skiing and it was at one point gaining popularity in hockey. Are there no companies that make vacuum systems anymore for hockey skates? Has anyone ever asked a ski shop if they would vacuum fit a pair of hockey skates, which I know sounds over the top, but I was just wondering.

I'm curious about the weight of the XS vs. the regular SB. The Step Steel you have in them would affect the weight though and so would the pro custom build. My custom FT1's were definitely heavier than retail. Does anyone know if the XS weigh more than the SB?

The XS holder was 4 grams heavier than the SB 4.0 holder. The STEP was 12 grams heavier than the Hyper Glide steel.
