Those are 6K's RBK branded I think. They had some 9K's but none that fit.

haha. I knew that would come up. That's my 78 Marshall Cabinet. There's a 76 to the right of it that you can't see. -
Here's my take from the Caps equipment sale.

That was freaking awesome! I had to sell my tickets due to 2 feet of snow on my street. -
I hear what you are saying, but this is how I switched to a different radius... Me: I need new steel. Bob: Want to try a different radius? (7/13) Me: Can you explain how this may help me? Bob: Explains the traits of this radius. Me: I make the decision knowing that I may need to tweak things a bit and adjustment time could be necesary. He's not seeing me skate, but he's explaining what the radius should offer and I make the decisions. In the case of the FBV, I think Bob and others are speaking in terms of rough equivalents... Probably because there are 500 people asking what FBV is equivalent to what traditional ROH? I doubt this will be a problem, most places that don't have a Blackstone machine (at least around here) aren't going to buy one just to do FBV sharpenings. I'd say about 90% of my teammates have no clue what their ROH is, so your target audience is small.
-
That's my point. Agreed, but that's going to be the case with any sharpener by mail.
-
FYI: Bob has done both 9' and 7'/13' combo radii for me as well as multiple hollows... He's certainly not over selling one specific radius.
-
That's a great website, very informative.

SAK: Just a quick question... We're saying that 90/75 has the bite of a 5/8 ROH. How about the glide? What ROH what that be equivalent to? Thanks!
-
Update: Bob says that if I asked for an equivalent of 5/8 then that's what I got. What I am experiencing does not sound like the 5/8 equivalent (based on what everyone else is saying) but there's nothing I can do about it. From all the replies, the adjustment time should be minimal. That is definitley not what I experienced. FYI: I've never been finicky with my blades before and usally transition from different hollows and profiles pretty easily. For now, I'm going back to a standard cut because I have games this weekend.
-
Thanks! Bob's been doing my skates for about 4 years I think... The plan was to go with the 5/8, but it's possible that 1/2 was accidently done. Either way, I don't think I should be feeling more bite than a 9/16 would offer... So exactly what you said... I expected the same or less level of bite. Or it could be that I just suck. :P
-
Bob @ No Icing is my sharpener. Am I correct in my basic assumption that under traditional sharpening, a shallower hollow leads to decreased bite? If that's the case, I think what I'd like is the glide of a shallow hollow, but with bite comparable to a 9/16 or 5/8 or close. Is that possible?
-
Wasn't it mentioned earlier that the bite should feel the same, you'd just get to keep the same level of bite with the glide of a much shallower hollow?
-
My normal cut is 9/16... Not exactly sure what FBV it is. I will check and post tomorrow... I think it's just the wrong FBV for me... Like oldtrainerguy said...

I skated on the FBV for the first time tonight and while I liked the extra glide, I think I need to go back to the drawing board. I was getting WAY too much bite on the edges... It was a lot harder to stop and it felt like the edge grabbed too much ice. On skating exercises such as forward one foot power pulls, I found it very difficult to transition from one edge to another. I *think* what I am experiencing is too much bite... Almost like I prefer the shallower hollow concept, but don't need the extra bite the FBV provides. Does that make sense? Perhaps I need more time on them, but I felt like I was going to kill myself out there. I plan to discuss my options with my sharpener tomorrow. I have the equivalent of a 5/8 FBV.
