  1. As long as you can make the shipping work for you...
  2. Yes, they do. The pivot point of the steel is also 9mm forward. In the case of 2 sizes up, you need to profile to the boot, not the steel to get the desired effect.
  3. The tower designs are different. CCM's plate goes further back, and the Tuuk's front goes further up.
  4. Bauer puts the next size up on the EE variants.
  5. If the shop in question did the work and are saying that other shops and online communities are clueless, they deserve to get put on blast if they're owning up to that mount. Experiences with businesses, good or bad, should be shared. Perhaps the MSH member who got this done will chime in.
  6. To be completely honest with you, I wouldn't touch that job at all. Now you're putting a third set of holes that are really close to each other, or further expanding an existing set of holes. If the shop can't handle doing oversized, they shouldn't take that job on. If I were the skater, I'd want new boots. Correct. They saw the back 6 line up and drilled new holes in the front.
  7. Agreed. The mount is too far towards the toe What’s also bad is those rivets were CRANKED. You can see each one has warped the holder. Looks like someone doesn’t know how to use a pneumatic riveter.
  8. Please keep it on topic, not personal.
  9. Installed a set onto my skates. Shot video during the installation which I'll share in the next couple of days; had to expand holes but did it all within 20 minutes.
  10. 15 years ago today, we opened the doors here. Thanks to those who have contributed to making MSH a success all these years.
  11. And that's the proper way. But the vast majority of shops just want to sharpen your skates with the least amount of effort. 1/2" is easy because it's also easy to remember. Some people don't even know what it means and probably figure there's such a thing as a full.
  12. But you're looking at it from someone who knows what they're doing and wants the best for their skaters. The truth is that most places don't want to go the extra mile, don't want to educate the customer and want to maximize their sharpening wheel's lifespan...so they offer a house cut which is typically 1/2" in the US.
  13. Send an email to proshop@modsquadhockey.com and we'll discuss next steps for the program.
  14. Or you can just pay the shipping and participate in our Prosharp Project...and not get the same profile that everyone gets from that place. But definitely work on the holder first, as that's the profile you're used to at the moment.
  15. Do note that STEP decided to cut back on certain SKUs on Blacksteel; namely ST-Ultra and ST-Mako. They are still offered in regular, non-treated steel.
  16. It's progressive. Imagine a set of steel done up at 20', then following it with a 13' but just grinding in what is zone 2, then doing a 6' just in zone 1, but having the ability to have all of those transitions blended in. Once again; all suggestions/recommendations. You can put a Q0 on a 230mm. I'm hoping to get the smaller Zups/Quads to round out the testing but haven't heard back from Prosharp about it.
  17. Registration now open:
  18. If you are wanting to attend SummerJam, please request access to the area: You will pay the entry fee upon approval. Do note that we expect a lot of requests.
  19. The holder sizes are recommendations - it tends to be a bit stricter on the triples than the quads, but now that they have 6 instead of 3, it can be finely tuned a bit better. The 50mm glide profile that you tried (Hudson V) is a custom profile that No-Icing created. The graphic above are Prosharp's stock profiles.
  20. Wasn't going to respond, but since you quoted me, I figured I'd respond. It's not any more different from a NHLer getting a couple of passes between periods. Both home machines on the market can be used to establish a hollow, but the key to longevity (and optimal performance) is to refresh the steel constantly and not let major trauma develop. It's actually the ones doing full grinds all the time trying to remove major nicks who are replacing their rings more often.
  21. That's how the home machines should be used. A refresh before every time you skate.
  22. Negative space is excess space; space you don't want in a skate.
