  1. Judging by how often you skate I think it would be worth it to go with the M8 or Mako II. You can get 25% off on them at Ice Warehouse right now, and get free return shipping if you join their iWin program for 10 bucks. That brings the M8's down to around the MSRP of the M7. Obviously you would have to pay extra for the baking and sharpening at your LHS, but if you're only buying skates every 20 years I think it'd be worth it to get the higher end models.
  2. MSH should get a commission from Easton for this thread.
  3. I happened to come across this video earlier about baking Makos and it describes how to relieve pressure points with a heat gun: Hope that helps!
  4. Just ordered some M8's, merry Christmas to me. I got the same size as my Supreme's, we'll see how that works out. FYI, Ice Warehouse has a 25% off coupon that works on these skates (HM's current sale code excludes them), that pushed me over the edge to try them. I'm sure the Mako 2's are a bit nicer, but I can't bring myself to spend that much money on skates even on sale.
  5. Ewww. ;) I had a similar issue when I got new skates recently though they weren't Makos. It was killing me at first but some combination of swapping in my Superfeet insoles and just breaking the skates in over time has totally eliminated it. Aside from that, another glowing review. Man it's tempting to get some Mako 1's on clearance right now even though I just got new skates recently. I don't think I've ever bought new skates and actually liked them at first. The orange on the tendon guard is kind of gross but since its removable you could easily spray paint it or something. Anyone know a size comparison between the Mako and the most recent Supreme line? I'm a 9.5 D in the 180's. Also does anyone have the M7 or M8? Are those still worth looking at?
  6. I have a feeling this happens a lot. When I bought new skates last spring, the guy helping me basically recommended only the Supreme line for my foot and when I asked about other skates like Easton's etc. he had the attitude of "if you really want to you can try them on but I don't recommend them." I wish I had tried more before buying. Glad the Mako's worked for you and interested to hear your impressions after taking them for a spin. I applaud Easton for at least trying to move things forward with their Mako line even if not everything was a home run.
  7. I think I'm going to give these a good look if/when the new model comes out. I haven't been super happy with the Supreme 180's I got earlier this year and I like what I've been reading about the Mako's. I've seen some complaints about durability on the first Mako, did they resolve that for the II?
  8. Dumb. Its unfortunate that Booth got knocked the fuck out, but that was a clean hit.
  9. Yeah, Im not saying he didnt high stick him (though I didnt see it happen). When I said he plays physical, I dont mean he does it in a serious way, and usually only to people who know hes just messing around. Like if were battling for the puck on the boards, we will shove each other a lot extra than is necessary just for fun. But anyway, yeah, home run swing to the face is inexcusable no matter what.
  10. An example of what NOT to do: My friend apparently high sticked some kid (who Ive never seen at open before) by accident (or maybe not really, he plays pretty physical sometimes but just in good fun, I doubt he tried to hurt him) and gave him a bloody nose. He came off all pissy and threw his shit down and skated off but I didnt know why. 10 minutes later he comes back holding a tissue on his nose saying how my friend broke his nose (I really doubt he did) and how he did it on purpose and he was going to go out there and do something about it. Now, Ive seen plenty of dick measuring contests unfortunately at open hockey, and thought he was just going to go out there and talk shit and push him and try to start something which never really escalates into anything. My friend is a big guy so I didnt really think anything of it. Next thing I know my friend is skating down the rink, and this kid skates up and takes a 2 handed baseball swing at his face (not wearing a cage or anything). Long story short, my friends mouth got fucked up, cops were called, ambulance came, the psycho kid is probably in deep shit.
  11. What is the spyne jobby supposed to do?
