Team Canada and Visors at WHC

Recommended Posts

Just wondering if anybody knows if Hockey Canada has made it manditory for all players to wear a visor at the World Hockey Championships? I had noticed guys like Thornton and Heatley wearing them but figured it was because they have been playing in Europe all season (plus Heatley's eye injury). But I also noticed today that guys like Redden, Draper and Smyth were wearing them as well.

Thanks!

i think i heard the announcer say that it was manditory to wear a visor for those born after 1976 not 100 % sure though

12/31/74 is the cutoff date. Anyone with a birthday after that must wear them and a lot of the older guys chose to wear them.

That would explain why Kovy isn't wearing one. But How about Victor Kozlov, I don't think he is wearing one and he is born in 1975.

I also think that the half visor looks better. Honestly, I've worn a half visor whenever I didn't wear a cage. I'd rather have a piece of plastic in my face when I'm playing instead of risking losing my vision. However, I still feel more comfortable with wear a full cage... I have a fear of the half visor shattering in my face. I think it happened to Marian Hossa? Someone correct me if I'm wrong.

3 reasons why not all pros wear visors

1 afraid of other people calling them a wussy

2 fogging

3 some pros claim that it affects there vision

I don't know if this is true or not but i heard in the nhl if you get into a fight, and you have a visor one your helmet you have to take off your helmet or you get en extra penalty.

any comment on this?? Is it true or not??

I agree, I prefer to play without a visor. I think I'd rather wear a cage than a visor, I haven't had much luck with visors due to fogging. It would be a little easier with a trainer on the bench who could give me a new towel after each shift to wipe it off :P

This might be a dumb question, but why do only the younger players have to where them?

A rule was passed several years ago and any player who was over a certain age(18?) was exempted from having to wear them. I don't know why the NHL doesn't do the same thing.

On the fogging, because I don't have trainers to serve me hand and foot, I bring my anti-fog spray to the bench. (Those of us using visors know as soon as sweat hits it you're toast.)

Now I reapply my anti-fog when required (usually at least once during the game) and I'm fine.

A pro could get a trainer to do this, or even have an extra helmet and visor on "stand buy" and just switch when required. Ray Borque use to do that with gloves.

Yes, maybe a storage problem if you're dealing with a while bench, but I'm sure they could figure that out!

No excuse why pros should not wear visors.

While I'm rambling, no to the tinted stuff. I want to see the eyes of my opponents.

Cheers,

JJ

Originally it was intended for the aggressor in the fight to get the extra 2 minutes but some players get away with things.
