Personally I wouldn't bother changing the Cobra holders unless you had a real problem with the feel. If I were you, I would ask myself why I'm choosing the T-Blades. I'm not trying to persuade you to buy something else but there are other holders out there. I've seen Tuuk Custom+ and even Pitch holders on Graf skates.

t blades are basiclly like freshley sharpened blades to me. they do hold an edge alot longer, but arent necessarily better. most people that have them, have them because they dont have someone that can sharpen their skates good or at all. if it was my decision, i would put tuuk lightspeeds or mission pitches on them but its up to you

the majority of people that i know who have t-blades got them because they like the look of them, not because of perfromance reasons. they rate right up there with mirror visors IMO

Why do you want t'blades if you don't know anything about them?

t blades are great for forward speed and fast crossovers ,both of which are good because you get a better cut and you grab the ice better ,however when doing sharp turns i seem to slip out ,maybe because of the small amount of steel and i hit the plastic and slide out ,but i dont know. im not sure how much youre going to like them. They dont last as long as you hear they do either ,one pair will last me from 15-20 skates ,im roughly 180 lbs. I hope i helped in some way.

Buying Lightspeeds online'll cost you 80 plus shipping, but if you get'em at a LHS, it should run you 80 for the blades/holders/rivets aaaaaaand labor.

Unless you don't have a LHS that does that sort of thing.

When you buy your new grafs, just have the store put on the holders you want before they send them to you.

We've been T-bladed to death with all the topics on them..

I've tried searching for many subjects and have always had great difficulty. I just used it, searching for t-blade information and opinions, because I am interested in them myself. I ended up getting all sorts of irrelevant articles, Kovalev videos to other stuff that as far as I could tell did not have the word "t-blade" in it anywhere. This was the first thread I found, it was on page 4 or 5.

I'm looking at them because I am tired of driving to the LHS, sometimes every week, only to have to deal with inconsistent sharpenings, even at Just Hockey, which I have been told is one of the better places to go in Toronto. I only live 10-minutes from there, but the journey is still a major hassle. I don't care for the way the t-blades look, but if I could save wear and tear on my car, gas, and the aggravation, as well as get a more consistent edge, I would be happy. So much so that I considered investing in a used skate sharpening machine.

Also, while new to hockey (1-y) I play a lot and like experimenting, and find the idea of being able to explore different hollows and radiuses inexpensively to be very, very appealing.

So - at the risk of reviving and old thread - any opinions on these ? Or failing that, can someone help me find the relevant threads ? I only found this one by entering "blade" then going through page after page of results....I'm not kidding.

I began using my t-blade skates about fifteen months ago and I will never switch back.

To me, t-blades have two advantages (better convenience and better performance) and two disadvantages (more noise and funkier appearance).

Disadvantages.

Noise. There are many times I skate that I hardly make any sound, whereas other times I'm far louder than other skaters. I've tried testing with my stride to see when I make more noise, and they're generally noisier when I'm not striding properly. So my guess is the noise is due to the sharpness of the blades. Because the blade is so much sharper, when you cut an edge, it seems to dig deeper and more loudly into the ice.

Appearance. Honestly, this is a stretch to call it a disadvantage, but we all know there are people who won't try news things because they're concerned about looking different. There is a reason behind the five circles, however. The circle is structurally stronger, so it enabled t-blade to use lighter materials in the holder while maintaining strentgh.

Advantages.

Convenience. I'm surprised by the gentleman who hasn't noticed longevity with the blades. I had my previous set of blades for 3.5 months and this set for 5.5 months before finally changing this weekend. I skate about an average of 3.5 times per week and would previously sharpen about every four to five skates. That said, I skated in the Chowder Cup at 5 months on the last pair and noticed my edges weren't holding like they would in Denver, so maybe I get such longevity due to softer ice.

Also, you can experiment with rockers and hollows until you find what fits your skating style best. I went from a medium rocker/medium hollow to long rocker/sharp hollow to short rocker/medium hollow to finally short rocker/sharp hollow. I liked it along the way, but I love it now that I've found the right combo for me.

Performance. I know t-blade claims the thinner blade heats up the ice quicker and hotter, allowing us to glide on water more quickly, but I haven't noticed any greater straight-ahead speed (although that could be due to using shorter rockers). What I did notice the first time I used the t-blades is better agility. If you look at a t-blade versus a fixed blade, you'll notice the t-blade has about 3/16 inches of metal from ice to holder, whereas a fixed blade typically has perhaps 3/4 inches of metal from ice to holder. Because it is a thinner piece of metal, it literally bends, so when you turn it flexes with you and shortens your turning radius. Basically, it replicates the affect shaped skis have on turning while skiing.

If you do decide to try t-blades, be prepared for feeling like you forgot how to skate for about the first five times. It just feels weird. You'll feel like you can turn better, yet you'll feel like you're slipping on the ice, which makes no sense given how sharp the blades are. Once you find the right stride, however, you'll start to love them (Most likely, you'll just need to bend your knees deeper than you are accustomed to.)
