Under your Equipment

Recommended Posts

I usually wear just a sleeveless t-shirt and either go commando or wear boxers. I tried some of the UA shirts and didnt like them, they felt way to slippery and i felt like my shoulder pads slid around on them to much.

I use some Patagonia Silkweight underwear for both my top and bottoms and alternate my top with a Nike Dri fit. They are thin enough to be used in humid Singapore.

The Patagonia pants are great but the top is alittle too smooth for my elbow pads.

Ok, so here is a question from the new guy. For those of you who only wear boxers or short compression jocks, do your legs stay warm enough with just your hockey socks and do have a problem with your shinpads chafing you? I'm just getting into this and am trying to decide if I want to go the compression pant route or just shorts. Anybody use that WSI jock pant and how does it perform?

Thanks

I wear Shock Dr compression shorts that have a nice pocket for my cup. When I first started I wondered if I was gonna get frosty just wearing socks and shins from the knee down. It hasn't happened yet. I sweat buckets during practice and do not find it any problem keeping warm, in fact the only time I get cold is when I'm shucking gear after practice.

My shins felt weird the first time I wore them bare legged, but I got used to it.

I use UA Socks, feel so good.

I want to buy a fit shirt for working out, has anybody used the rbk platinum stretch? I like the feel of the nike dri-fit, and the rbk looks similar. Any suggestions?

I use the Itech Jock Shorts down yonder, and as gay as it sounds I use a calvin klein compresison dri-fit T-shirt...it feels as good as under armour, but I paid 20 bucks for it versus paying 35 for the UA.

I wear standard white sports socks form Asda (Walmart) they seem fine for me but i keep hearing about "the ultimate skating sock" and i was just wondering what difference apart from moisture wicking they may do.....if they do and do you reccomend them?

hip Hip Hooray for UA!

That was gay, anyway, why the fuck am I rhyming so much...?

Ahem: On a more serious note, the only problem with the UA socks and apparel are that, U GOTTA WASH THEM ONCE IN A WHILE. God damn, there is this guy on my team that hasn't washed his stuff for a month...

Its me :P

Also UA socks tend to go missing; but who the hell whould steal my sweaty socks....?

Pantherfan,

I can only speak for my brand, but most brands copy from each other, so the attributes should be similar.

Beside wicking moisture, our socks are much thinner than standard sports socks, although they are thicker on the sole to create a padding effect. Also, they have a 'traction' material on the sole to keep the foot in place better.

Overall, they're significantly more comfortable. However, as I wrote earlier in this thread, I had a few pairs of these socks sitting around my house for months, because I never thought socks could make a difference. I ran out of my clean "hockey" socks one night, so I opened a package of the CoolFeel socks in a pinch. I would never switch back now.

Presumably, other manufacturer's "ultimate skate sock" would have similar features, so I don't think you'll regret any of them.
