Recommended Posts

make sure you wash them with soap after you sands them, the moulds have release fluid which sometimes make it hard for paint to stay on.

Yep, wash them with Dawn dish soap, to remove the mold release agent and other greases that have built up. Sand them lightly with some fine grain sand paper (150 or 220 should work.) Then wash them again.

I'd use the new Fusion paint from Krylon, its meant for plastics and works pretty well. I painted a couple blades and a helmet for a kid in my neighborhood and they have stood up really well. Big things to remember are multiple light coats, stick to the instructions on the can for timing and then let it sit for at least a couple days to cure.

Ok quick question guys,

I want to spray my holders green, I DO realize it will chip like mad, but i just want it for like a game or so, So when it starts to chip, would it be easy to remove with nail polish remover or paint thinner? Btw, i have LS2's if that makes a difference.

I recommend being very careful using paint thinner or nail polish remover on any plastic. Solvents can sometimes do bad things to plastic.

THey were spraypainted.

yeah, did you see Ovechkin's for the Olympics. They showed close ups of them during the gold medal game, and you could clearly see they were spray painted. I imagine some clear coat would help with durability though.

what ever happened to the clear holders of the late '70s early '80s. if they ever came back i would buy them very quickly

Search this forum, I believe there was a thread because there were some on eBay (but I could be wrong).

Found it - clear tuuks

a better method might be to dye them. you get that fabric dye they sell in grocery stores and put it in boiling water. drop the holders in there for 1 minute and then pull them out and let them cool.

Look on google for exact directions, but I know people do this with plastics. Not sure if it affects the integrity of the holders, but I doubt it.

It would last longer and look better than painting.

Id decided to take a chance and paint the Tuuks on my Synergys blue.I dint do it good, but just to see how it lasts. I think Im going to end up sanding them and painting them witth Krylon fusion like someone else mentioned after I use them alittle.

Pics will be up shortly.

Green is one of the many sponsors sc bern has. They make these special holders for them indeed. The guy with these flames on his helmet is the top scorer. Note that the player with the flames on his helmet is wearing a different jersey as the other two players ( they are from different teams ) in the picture. It is tradition that the topscorer of the team ( or league, not sure about that ) is wearing another jersey as all the other players on the field.
