Co-ed locker rooms?

At my old rink we had a locker designated for women. If they played on a competitive team, they would change there and make it to the team locker room for pregame speeches and the like. Most of the adult women changed with the guys - I was always courteous and stripped in the bathroom.

We've had women on some of the adult teams I've been on and they changed with us. It's not like they haven't seen naked men before, though I'm sure the other ones looked a little better than some of our guys.

I think that is the difference...Men's League (re: "Adult League")...or pick up hocker versus "kids" in the same room. When the room is 18-40 year old and fairly mature...it's just a matter of how much locker room talk she can tolerate. If a woman wanted to play with us (no pun intended) I'd have no problem having her in the room.

As far as toning down the locker room talk, there is a guy who frequently brings his 2 boys with him (10 & 12 I think) and they sit in the room, and we try (I stress "TRY") to clean it up, so I know it can be done. They're both hockey players, so they know what the room is all about anyway. They mostly just shoot tape balls around.

I'm sure at 10-13 the last place a developing girl would want to be is in a room full of boys (and, it could be fairly embarrassing for the boys at that age...if you know what I mean) You hear stories all the time that girls at that age are uncomfortableself conscious (sp?) in their own dressing rooms, and their showers have stalls/curtains...

We had a mini tourney within our company, so the refs were from our group as well. They dressed with us...and the one woman who played for us dressed in the Refs room, then came in once everyone was "decent".

The women usually had their hockey underwear on under their clothes, so they just took off their clothes and got dressed. I never saw one of them shower in a co-ed locker room.

I'm not a prude or anything (very far from it) but I just try to be courteous when there's a woman in the locker room. It doesn't bother me - but I don't want them to feel uncomfortable, that's all.

I agree there is a difference, that's my only experience with the issue though. I never had to coach a co-ed youth team. In most cases I think it's best to have different locker rooms but coaches also need to be a little more creative. Maybe gather everyone in the girls locker room every once in a while or do things in a way to make her feel less of an outcast.

it's all about what she wants? what about how the boys feel...you are then removing their right to take showers, or feel comfortable

i dont really think it matters. if the girls comfotable cahnging infront of guys let them. so teh guys jsut have to be a little more mature, big deal. that article is a little unnesasary tho.

At 15-16 whatever, but around that age the talk is not going to clean up much. My self being one of those proud guys that is always nude untill 10/15 minutes before the game sharing the details on the recent catch I know that I would not feel the need to stop because a girl is in the room. As long as she has the choice to have a seperate room. As far as Im concerned I dont really agree with her playing in a boys league anyway so I'm not going to change my "style" for her.

This subject reminds me of how, in the States, some boys sued for and won the right to play on female field hockey teams (was this documented on 60 Minutes?). They had to wear skirts, but they dominated.

I suppose that we could combine these two legal actions, and give the field-hockey playing boys the right to change in the girls' dressing room.

My feeling is that, until our society has common bathrooms, they should change separately.

Honestly I wouldn't care, but some of the guys on our team(midget) haven't seen a real naked lady before or have had one seen them, so they would probablly get a little embarrased and be real uncomfertable. And I don't what other people's dressing rooms are like but ours include rocking out in the shower, and breakdancing. I doubt any girl would want to see that.

There still has to be an effort for the stuff what goes on in the room to be toned down. If not, they she can leave. There are always a second choice - if she doesnt like whats going on then she can leave. Plus, some guys may not choose to shower, or not be so open. It can be PP whether you shower or not or walk around the dressing room half naked to bits.

As JR mentioned, girls come prepared so they dont show themselfs off. I personally have never had a girl on my team for a season except first year learn to skate(4-5 years old) . However, when i skate during the week and little kids need help undressing it just gets wierd. One time im walkin out of the shower and my towel was like 15-20 feet away, a mom walks it just as im getting out, one of the funnyiest looks ive gotten. i didnt go crazy but didnt go coverd eaither cuz she just jumped, stared and kept comming it which i thought to be very disrespectful seening as im 16 and she was in her late 30's. But if they wanna persue this agument, let um cuz there only trying to get their 15 min a fame

We've had kids in our locker rooms slide across the floor in the shower like seals or penguins across smooth ice on thier bellies, it was hilarious. :lol:

I honestly don't feel comfortable in a room with a girl or playing against a girl. If you hit them, your a pussy, if you get smoked by them your a pussy. You just don't know how to treat him. And I wouldn't want a girl my age seeing me naked in the dressing room naked, cuz the odds are she'd go tell the whole town population. That and some of the other boys would get a stiffy looking at the girl(s). Some girls we're complaining that they couldn't play with guys on the hockey team, becuase the laws stated they couldn't. I think someone forgot to tell them they sucked (talent wise.) That and let's just say, the prettiest conversations aren't in the locker room.
