Jofa Bubble Cage

Recommended Posts

Were there 2 versions made? Like one for goalie and one for forwards? Cause on some auctions I see "Bubble goalie cage" and some dont, and some look oddly different

This one has longer sides:

And this one looks like a normal cage:

The one with the longer sides is as stated, a goalie cage. Jofa used to make a screwy cage combo for goalies.

The second one is an old player's cage, I guess you could say 3 generations ago, before the angular one you see now. I'm guessing it's 20 years old? A few of my teammates and I used them in college and they were a good 10-15 years old then.

one of the kids on my team had a bubble that he wore for a game a year ago, it was pretty cool. :D

I don't think they are certified anymore though, so you're not supossed to wear them for league...

They're by far the most popular cage in H.S. hockey here in Minnesota I had one for a while but it was one of the junior ones and I sold it to a friend. Most kids my age in my year can't wear one becasue of a nasty accident where a kid broke his jaw and now the parents are afraid of what will happen. It's a tradition that the seniors pass their mask on down to the incoming players. So it's not all prep.

i dont think "most popular" is the correct term, but most sought (sp?) after. everyone wants one, but they are so rare. would you agree flo?

flo- where are you from again?

theyre good because the chin cup or whatever you want to call it is attached to the cage with screws. If you wear it from far from your face(like most ncaa, ciau players do) you can actually see the puck in your feet

So are these hard to get? I have to wear a THC liddy next year so I won't wear my full visor/fishbowl, just a bubble if I can find one. No one here wears them so I know nothing of them, someone want to fill me in..?

BTW, the guy on the left, with the off whiteish cage is wearing a bubble right?

The best place to find them is Ebay, just type in "jofa bubble" in the search engine and you'll probably get some hits. They can get somewhat expensive though as they're pretty rare and often get many bids.

As I'm typing this there's one on Ebay for $46 (9 bids) already, and there are almost 4 days left of that particular auction. Last season I sold one on Ebay, it was in pretty bad condition as alot of paint had chipped, and yet I got about $35 for it.

I'm pretty sure you should be allowed to wear your full visor. Regardless of sponsorship, players at all NCAA schools are allowed to wear whatever masks they want, with many of them choosing Itech. Face protection is a personal preference thing, and if you've worn a clear shield for many years switching to a cage could bother you.

And that looks like the more angular Jofa cage that was produced before the current CCM/Jofa cages in the picture.

its not that I won't be allowed to wear it its that I get THC things for free next year at Prep school so I would rather just switch it out. Plus I can't even imagine how ugly that would be with a CCM/RBK lid. Anywho, I've only had my fishbowl for 6 months so switching won't be hard.

BTW, that pic is of my Prep School team not an NCAA team

Thanks for the reply though boys
