RBK 5K OPS- Junk?

Recommended Posts

I bought my son a Jr. Reebok 5K OPS 2 weeks ago. He has played less than 10 times with it, and today I noticed the weave fibers starting to show on the edge of the toe. He does not smack his stick around during non-play and has not had any significant "incidents" while playing. If this keeps up, I can't see the stick lasting past September. I noticed the blades on these were pretty thin when I bought it, but his Bauer Tri-Flex Gold is still going strong after 1+ seasons so I figured he would outgrow the RBK before he broke it. What a waste of $110. Anyone else had any problems?

I had a problem with my 6k chipping at the blade and fraying at the toe,but I filed it down and heavily clearcoated the toe.It has been fine ever since. Do you or him tape over the toe?

No. Don't tape the toe. He usually asks me to re-tape his stick 2 minutes before he has a practice or game so I never seem to have the time. I am going to have to put something on there to save this thing.

If u dont want to run cloth tape all they way to the end u could put a strip of black electrical tape along the bottom and around then toe around to the top. i do that and also tape the toe but the electrical tape stretches so if u want to u can use your fingernails and smooth it out and u wont even see it (if that matters at all) it also helps with protecting the bottom of the blade after the cloth wears through

If he tends to be digging along the boards for the puck a lot, that will wear on the toe.

I had this same problem with my CCM Vector 120 OPS last season. The fibers in the blade were fraying.

It's a fairly new stick, so we don't know much about durability. I was able to get a bunch in March and sold all of them quick, none of those customers have had any complaints, and they were rode hard thru playodffs, tryouts and end of season tournements. So far so good. But as said above, all sticks will fray (except solid core carbons like PARCROW) chipping and fraying is normal wear and tear. There are many methods of slowing fraying as mentioned. Try some of them.

Try taping the toe, it should at least slow down the wear. At my shop we haven't sold many at all. People always pick them up and put them down with a discusted face. My guess is they don't like the snake grip. Anyways since not many have been sold no one has come back to us with any review at all on them. Epoxy or some tough stronghold glue may also do the trick by sealing it.

i put this goop type stuff on the toe of my synergy last year because the toe was beat up.  it holds up pretty well :D

Could you be a bit more specific?

I think there is actually a sealant that has the name GOOP. Its useually clear and dries pretty quickly. I think i got some around here somewere.

speaking of parcrow jimmy, the ex captain on our team was friends with the owner and got the sticks for free. is the owner an ex-inno employee? and did parcrow turn to oulation now?

All I know about PARCROW is that George Crow is an owner. He use to work for MANY companies, like Northland, sherwood, for 40 or so years. I have his bio at the shop, I don't believe INNO was on his list. There may be an other owner in the company, I don't know. I'll ask next time I talk with them.

i had the same problem on a 1100 i have, but i used some carbon fibre sealant on it once and haven't had a problem for about a season and a half now. it's really amazing, because it actually rebonds all the fibres back together, not just glues them. you can find it usually at hobby stores.
