What's your best skill?

Recommended Posts

I'm interested in knowing what skill you consider to be your best.

E.g. when I was younger, it used to be my acceleration and top speed - 3 steps to get to top speed.

Now, it's my balance, quickness, turning and forechecking. I can make opposing star puck-hog defensemen yell at their team-mates and make them give up after the 1st period.

I think I have good vision. There are times I have my back turned to a teammate and pass to where he had been going, but he's peeled off because I'm looking away from him. I've sometime told teammates to "just keep going because I saw you."

I also hustle.

I skate pretty well, my shooting accuracy and quickness is good. I also block passes and shots like nobodys bussiness. My normal and saucer passes are great too. I seem to have a nack for being able to drop 20,30,40+ ft long saucer passes over sticks right on the tape. I guess that has something to do with haveing pretty good ice vision.

I'd have to say my speed. It's my most important skill being the smallest kid on the ice, I need to be able to outskate the other players.

I've been told that I'm an all around player, but I think my ability to skate and get open and find open teammates is my best skill.

My forechecking and penalty kill are pretty good. I always look for his best option and put my stick in that passing lane. I'm fast, I can finish off plays pretty good, and I'm good at passing. I'm also good on the powerplay.

Where I need improvments- I need quicker feet, I'm not the quickest, but I'm not the slowest. If I get quicker it will be huge for my game. And my backwards skating.

i think my speed and skating skills are the first thing that people see right off the bat but my best skills would be my passing and my ability to hold on to the puck and make time and room for my teamates before i make a good pass. i use to have a room good wrist shot but i almost never shoot anymore... just last night i made a move to get by two guys, dek out the goalie only to make a behind the goalie(not behind the net) pass across the crease for a open net shot. funny thing is that i kinda of wished i had scored myself a few seconds later... i guess i've just gotten used to doing nothing but pass for so long that it's the only thing i can do in the heat of the moment. everyone tells me i have a lot of patience.

Vision, passing, and great anticipation... I'm a playmaker I'd say. I don't score a whole lot but I get a buttload of assists. I'm also pretty good at avoiding checks when I have the puck. Now if I could only have the hands to hang on to the puck after avoiding that check...

I hate defending guys who can do all the dekes and spinneramas (probably thenextone96 or ponty would make me burst out laughing as they deke me out of my jock 1-on-1). To me, this is one of the skills that take the longest to develop.

I can thread the needle with any kind of pass you can imagine. ( ie. back hand saucer between a guys legs on to the tape of a teammate )

Besides my rugged good looks (is that a skill?), I would say banking passes off the boards. I have a good eye for the angle I need to get it past the forecheck and right on the winger's tape.

Definitely playmaking, I used to play on a team in which I was the only player with any real talent, though I really lacked touch around the net. So I spent a lot of time working around the outside, behind the net, etc. I used to only average about 30 points a season (30 games, 10-12 were of the points were goals) but the kids I played with had zero finish so had I been on a better team it would have been a lot better.

Last season I played (03-04) I was on a better team and ended up with 16 goals and 45 assists in 23 games, but I honestly felt like I had a terrible season. For the first ten games I wasn't playing my game, I was trying too hard to score goals rather than create them. I had like 12 points in the first ten games. After I realised what I was doing wrong I exploded.
