Ipod Nano

Recommended Posts

Hey,

I`ve made up my mind to buy an iPod, and was wondering if anyone has tried or heard anything about the iPod nano? It`s between that, the 4 gig mini or the 20 gig. Any opinions? Should I be looking at another kind of mp3 player?

Thanks,

Chris

With its price I'd bump up and go with the 20 gig. The Nano's cute and all, but for a relatively small amount more you can get a lot more memory. Then again, I'm a size queen.

i think the nano is the best out there... even 500 songs is to much for my taste.. the nano is more then 25% smaller then the mini and plus is uses flash ram instead of a micro drive so it's faster and MUCH lighter. 11265519021zW48NNcR8_1_1_l.jpg

also because it's flash ram instead of a hard drive it's also a lot more durable.

But whats the point of having a 20 gig ipod if you dont even have 1000 songs? I know most people could use a mini that holds 5000.

on http://www.apple.com they're selling the 2gig nano's for 249.99 Free Shipping and Free Laser Engraving or you can get the 4 gig for 299.99 with the same options.

Im sorry, but whats the point of buying the 4gb Nano, when you could have a 20gb for only $50 more?

Exactly. Maybe before they came out with the ability to store photos on there, but for the extra money I'm going with something that's 5x bigger. Maybe you don't have enough songs to fill it, but you can always fill it with pictures and what not. I know I'm still over the 60gb one. When is extra space never good? I'd rather have that than the one that's cuter.

Nano pricing I had seen was $249 for the 4g and $199 for the 2gb...when I get to NYC in 2 weeks, I'm getting a Nano..just have to wait for the first checks to roll in !

the main point for the nano is that it's more durable and much smaller... the extra $50 for THAT much more space is something that is totally up to you.. it's the same reason why people some people buy 17inch laptops while others like 12inchs for the same price. at least for me i'll never have more then 500 songs that i'll want to hear... all the old ones just get deleted. in fact i don't think i have more then 50 songs that i like right now.

Neither the regular, mini, shuffle, or nano are durable. If you drop any one of them, they will break/dent instantly. Electronics and durable should never be used together.

that is where your wrong... there is a big difference when it comes to the nano. It's the only ipod that uses flash memory as storage instead of a micro drive. drop or shake a micro drive (just like a normal hard drive) enough and it'll be game over. here is a link that shows you just how durable the nano is... http://arstechnica.com/reviews/hardware/nano.ars

they even run over the nano with their car!

Not arguing with you, but I have fallen full weight onto my mini and it didn't break. I was playing hockey outside and then I biffed huge and had my mini in my hand, and fell down onto it and luckily all I got were a few scratches. Pretty dece if you ask me.

Buuut..who needs a 'durable' mini anyway?

On the subject, my dad bought one 3 days ago, it seems to be pretty killer, and he's got 900 songs on it already. It also looks boss so that's cool too..

So it wont dent? The screen wont crack? It wont chip? Theres no wear and tear?

That certainly does not look durable to me.

Obviously anything can get dented or scratched. If you take a hammer to a car its going to get dented but cars are still pretty durable in some circumstances. If that wasnt a test, he shouldnt be near any electronics.

If you treat your stuff like crap, expect it to look like crap. When I go to drop-in hockey, I often will wear my shuffle around my neck and use it then. Many a time have I taken a spill and it never skips a beat and keeps on tickin. I will often put my shuffle in my mouth when I need to use both hands and my pockets are full, so it's got alot of teeth-mark sort of scratches on it, but like I said, it keeps on ticking. Drop a shuffle, kick a shuffle, shoot a shuffle with a stick shuffle and they keep on ticking. I call that durable.

ya and the shuffle is made of flash ram just like the nano... do all the stuff you just listed on a mini or normal ipod and it's game over... hard drives are just spinning disks and if you shake it the head will hit that disk which means game over... flash ram is much more durable that way.. i didn't mean to say that there won't be any cosmetic damage cause that will always happen what i mean is that there is a lot less that could go wrong if your hard on it. anyone who is around computers a lot will tell you that there is a lot more problems with hard drives then ram and when you shake a hard drive a lot problems will come but with ram it's nothing.

I've dropped my Ipod atleast 20 times and it still works. Seems pretty durable to me. And it looks like that one is still turning on after whatever happened to it.

i got a mini, then after 2 days of using it (no dropping or crushing it, just having it in my pocket), it died. it won't turn on, and it doesn't charge/get recognized by my computer when i plug it in. i guess i got a dud, but i'm really pissed off about apple.

on another note, how do you guys get like 1000 songs on a 4gb mini? i can fit only about 700.

THockey- you contradict yourself with your definition. since the nano has withstood the wear and tear, and still manages to work, then it is durable. i think you're mixing up "durable" with "indestructable"
