End plug and flex?

Recommended Posts

I thought someone mentioned something about an inch to flex ratio, but I can't find it to reference. I was wondering how much flex you're adding per inch of end plug.

Since most sticks now have tapers and specific areas of flex, there's no way to have one number that works for all shafts. You shouldn't notice any difference before you hit 4 inches or so.

I was wondering because I bought that 260 flex (standard tenon) 1100 and it has a 4-4 1/2" plug. I was curious how much flex I was adding. I thought I read somewhere that it adds 5 flex per inch, but that seemed like a lot.

The increased flex is clearly a result of the increased leverage on a longer extension. It changes the focus point of where and how the stick flexes.

I'm 6'6", so i have to use a fairly long extension, and i can't use anything less than a 110 flex (even for roller) because the stick just becomes too whippy.

For the most part that's true, but the Ultra Lites and Grip Lites I've used maintain their intended flex better. According to Guru that's the purpose of the differential flex, so I'll go with that being the reason.

As someone said above, since shafts now have specific flex points engineered into them that adding to or subtracting from the length of a shaft will have pretty much no effect on flex, unless you do something really drastic like 6 inches or so.........

I put in a 8 inch butt end and cut it about 2 inches so it's probably about a 6 inch butt-end now. I find it adds a bit of flex, but it might just be my imagination.

So he's 6'7 using a stick thats only a little to long for me, but hes 7" taller. Anyways, if this kid really is 6'7 why the heck hasen't your basketball team recruited him?
