Dion Phaneuf goes for a ride :P

Recommended Posts

He obviously pulls his stick, pretty vaginal move, but I guess some players you just expect stuff like that from.

LMAO

You along with Greg Millen. The guy was laughing his ass off I though it was a lack of professionalism.

I just called in my source for sports from Finland on this. He spoke to Jarko today and the reply in my email was "my stick got stuck. It wasn't intentional." *grin* My guy is a sportwriter hooked into every Finn playing in the NHL. Hey, its a small country so the boys stick together. I can just picture the Finnjibberish coming from Jarko!

I just can't believe you guys actually think that a stick on the back of the leg could make someone like Phaneuf look like a drunk guy who just ran out onto the ice. That video in the first post is a crappy, low res image. The CBC feed clearly showed phaneuf tripping on the blade of his stick. Anyone that watched the game should have seen this. You really think Dion would have just skated away with his tail between his legs if Ruutu had cheapshotted him like that? You've obviously not been following him for very long if you buy into that...

Dion's stick is falling towards and next to the boards(its out of screen on the replay when you see his left foot come up off the ice) so I'm not buying the idea he stepped on his stick. Now that Jarko has said "my stick was stuck, it wasn't intentional" to a friend of his, what more proof do you need? By the time Dion was back to his feet, Ruutu already had his butt plastered to the bench. Dion wasn't going to call him out off the bench. This isn't Jr, this is NHL. Dion will catch up with Ruutu down the line. They always do.

I agree that it's probably UNintentional. Ruutu's stick blade looks to be stuck between the pants and the shin pad. Also, Ruutu was already looking away when he started falling..

Pretty funny though :)

thats just an overly biased opinion of a canucks fan.

and you can clearly see that he was only on one leg at the time ruutu tripped him.

I do not think that anyone, I don't care how big you are, could trip an NHL player, especially Phaneuf, with one hand on the stick.

If his stick would have gotten stuck there while Phaneuf was falling, that would be a different story. He definitely fell on his own.

Next time you meet an NHLer, shake his hand(which is usually the size of an oven mitt) and then feel how strong it is, with the grip that could strangle you. Now add that strength to his stick and with the snap twist of his wrist, oh yeah an NHLer could pull a player down with one arm. Isn't Dion skating backwards when the behind the knee tug is pulled? One arm, one twist, on the ice.

I don't care how strong ANYONE is, you cannot pull an NHL players leg clear out from under him with a one handed TUG like that. It just isn't possible. The only way I can see Ruutu having anything to do with the fall is if Ruutu's stick was securely latched into the area behind Phaneuf's knee, and Ruutu SKATED away with stick in hand, not TUGGED at it.

So we have an x-page discussion about a trip? Were there any serious injuries? Eh....

At least its civilized. It was a dirtbag move so it deserves x pages. Its a slow week in the NHL anyway.

#94,

Have you ever shaken hands with an NHLer? I have met lots of these guys at trade shows, at practices, here in the shop. Their hand and arm strength is wicked. Would you like to have me arrange to have a pro pull you down from behind your knee with one arm? We could let this happen off ice and see what the result is. Just for fun.............

You really underestimate their strength if you do not think this is possible. And read my post where Jarko admitted to his friend to putting his stick behind Dion's leg. The guy said he did it!!

I only have seen the video in the first post....it simply looked like Ruutu put the stick between the legs and then turned away....letting Phaneufs backwards momentum take it's course....I do not think that the dramatic result was completely intentional by Ruutu, but he had placed his stick in a position that could cause something to happen, and by simply turning away to the bench and holding on to his stick without tugging on it, he got the result while looking pretty innocent....Basically a slick move by an experienced pro, who took advantage of a situation.

However there is no doubt some payback coming after Phaneuf get's to see the video.

Since I am avoiding doing homework as we speak, I have reviewed the play many many times. It looks like Phaneuf misplaces his weight and his back heel slips out from underneath him. I don't think it would be caused by a pull, which I think we can all agree Ruutu (who has now admitted to) has done.

Well, seeing as how I skate with the Philadelphia Flyers every summer, I'm pretty sure I know their strength.

Then you must be able to pull some player's legs out from under him one handed, too. Just kidding..... Really, it doesn't matter to me but I know,as do you, that these guys are capable of some pretty wicked stuff that happens so quickly that sometimes you don't even know what happened to you or how it happened. Jarko did the deed. Give Jarko credit for admitting to doing it to Dion. The rest of us are just skating in circles................

ohh, ohh, can I start dropping names too?

Actually, I was simply making fun of everyone who talks about all of the people they know. Not just those people in this topic. I have to work almost every day so driving to south Jersey really isn't all that convenient for me.
