New CCM Vector Pads.

Recommended Posts

I think that the CCM goalie pads have gone downhill since the came out with the Blockade. I have to admit the blockade was a big step ahead, but in my opinion it was a horrible pad. I had to use a set during a tournament about 3 years ago...I hated them because they had zero flex and the rebounds fly out. The Gatekeeper was a step towards making a good pad for them, but not a big enough one. I think that these vector pads, from what I've seen, might be another step backward. I think they lost it when they lost Brian Heaton.

It says in the ad that they have a square profile thigh rise. I remember when they did that with the blockades and a ton of guys hated that. They look like the blockades in a way...the pad face does. I'm skeptical, but i'm excited to see these pads at the show to see what is supposed to make them that much better and different from the blockades. The gloves look a little like the gatekeeper gloves.

A whole lot of their Vector products are gonna look like the Gatekeeper products. Looks like CCM is dropping the Gatekeeper name and replacing it with Vector on many of the 2006 items.

I was looking at the 2006 CCM and Reebok goalie gear books last Tuesday...

The Gatekeeper C/A is now the Vector C/A

The Gatekeeper pants are now the Vector pants

The Gatekeeper bag is now the Vector bag ... etc.

I can only assume they did the same thing with the gloves. Looks like the only thing to get a complete do over was the pads. Well that and introducing the new goal skate line...

Do u think the name changes are going to make the prices go higher??

I don't think it will affect their pricing. It's already pretty high for what you are getting... <_<

Looks like they are just toning down their lines. Amalgamating a whole lot of duplicate product under one line. Dropping the stuff that doesn't sell well. At least in the goalie gear...

The other thing to consider is CCM/RBK and Bauer/Nike are leading the way in "MADE IN CHINA" pro level gear. The stuff that used to be made in North American factories by workers making a decent living is now being made by workers making astonishing low wages. I didn't even realize when I bought my Gatekeeper Pro goal pants that they were made in China. (and it shows) They'd have a hard time justifying a price increase.

Its horrible to think of people in Chinese sweatshops making goalie equipment, or any hockey equipment. Basically they are people in a factory who probably have never seen a hockey game or anyone wear this equipment and they are expected to make it and have it function like pro level equipment. That is why I will only wear vaughn and Brians, that and plus they make the best gear on the market right now. I've had my velo's for 4 and a half years and they still don't look that bad...thats how goalie equipment should be made.

Vaughn makes stuff in China. I bet Brian's is on there way too, with Mike Vaughn being one of the owners. Now, I try to buy stuff made in Canada or US. Just because it's made in China, doesn't mean it's a sweat shop.

I have to agree with masterpirate, if you look closely at what seems like all his recent pictures, Brodeur is just wearing the old 10's. As it was mentioned before with CCM taking a step back with the Blockades; I couldn't agree more. For the money, the Simmons Matrix is a better overall pad, but I cannot stand either of them. I was dissappointed with the Blockade release which forced me to move to a different company. CCM finally started to get their head above water with the Gatekeeper, but now their just going back the wrong way again. The only thing that I dislike about my Gatekeepers is the strapping system. Yeah the cloth straps and plastic clips are lighter than the traditional; but IMO I would rather tade that for the strength of good old leather and brass. Things were great until Heaton left.

You are correct. Those are just rebranded heaton 10s with the Vector graphic. Same thing he did with the Gatekeeper graphics.

Haven't all of his CCM pads been just clones of his old DRs?

That's what I was led to believe. A few nights ago, TSN showed Brodeur putting on his new chest protector. Brodeur had worn the same chest stuff since juniors, and had just added more padding as time went on instead of getting new gear. Here's a pic of what his old one looked like at the 2004 World Cup. Personally wouldn't wear that in my beer league, let alone in the NHL.
