Why is this guy not playing in the pro's!?!

haha because one trick ponies don't make it to the nhl. you gotta have real all-around skills

Exactly. It's like the AND1 Mixtape guys...all style, no substance - I mean, just look at Rafer Alston...

I agree.

If anything, this guy is a 'harlem globetrotter' of hockey. ;)

Ahh you beat me to the analogy!

He can do a lot of tricks with a hockey stick basically. Doesn't mean he can play all aspects of the game to a professional calibre.

What I wanna know is, what does our own KovyRibsFedo think of skinner? B)

I like some of those breakaway moves, but the one where he throws his gloves past the goalie to distract him, is that even legal? I could see doing it in pick-up or something, but if someone were to do that during a game?

One kid did that to me and I knew it was coming so when he threw the glove I picked it up and threw it over the glass onto the concrete outside the Zamboni door. When his dad came in the locker room looking for the guy who did it, I kindly informed him I was trying to teach his son a lesson and he should be glad I did it by tossing the glove and not by breaking his hand with a slash. That was the last time any of the kids tried that move at pickup at that rink when I was there.

pretty impressive. very quick wrists, and shows very good lateral movment that would actually work on a 1 on 1.

at least i can proudly say my finish on the michigan 360 tween the legs is better :P (which i scored on at practice today... haha)

EDIT: took a look at the checking clip... and that left some to be desired. kinda weak. thought the broken stick on the cross check was kinda funny too.

Oh yes, care to add an opinion Kovy?

His hands/moves are impressive but like others mentionned, you need to be more complete than that to play in NHL. And I don't find Skinner skating to be very fluid from what I've seen in the videos.

But, having good hands is one of the most important skills in hockey.

I think his hands are F-ing amazing-his skating isn't very good. But hes got the stickhandling skills and all he does is teach kids to stickhandle so it doesn't really matter how he skates just as long as he can move around enough to pull of the moves!

Do you guys know of any sites that have a bunch of moves or dekes that I can practice? I am having a hard time finding anything.

When my friends and I play pick-up hockey at the rink, we spend tonnes of time just doing shootouts, and its becoming pretty competitve  :D

I wanted to find some moves that I can try other than my usual wrist shot 15 ft away from the net <_<

IMO by far the best deke ever is just a simple deke to the backhand and roof it. Works every time for me. If you can master that, you can score on almost any goalie.

On this same topic..

I wouldn't mind doing some of those drills on the USA hockey site, but I've found that the excessively light roller hockey balls actually screw up what little feel I have..

Is the swedish stickhandling ball the right way to go? What little practice I've done is using a regular ice puck on my relatively smooth garage floor. It's not too bad, but there's definitely more friction than on the rink..

Yeah, i have the same problem! But when i use a smart hockey ball it seems to be ok. Never used a swedish stickhandling ball b4.

Skinner has got MaD SkIllZ, but sometimes he looks like he's got his head down.

If you can't get your hands on a swedish stickhandling ball, two other options I've heard of are:

1. Use a golf ball. Dense, bouncy, same height as a puck more or less.

2. Use a whiffle ball that's been stuffed with a cut-up tennis ball.

skinners are great for fundamentals....but at game speed is another thing...the time you usually have in a game doesnt usually match the time you need...now for shoot-outs,,,, you have the time...obviously

FYI - You can download and watch all Skinner's movies on Totalvid.com. If you sign up for a month they give you one week free with unlimited downloads and you can quit before your $9.95 month starts.

No. The files are done with DRM licensing, so you have to download it from their site to get the license. TotalVid.com is a movie rental service. You can also rent the individual parts of the DVD's for $3.99 a piece.
