Fit difference between versions of skates

Recommended Posts

Hi there,

i got my 8090 in my needed size (i tried them on and got them) and i was shocked.

First, i got a pair from 04/05, because of the LS1 holder and they fit smaller.

I tried on a 05/06 (LS2) pair and they were fine in 8.5EE and they were perfect. Today my skates arrived and i tried on and they were too small..

Hows that possible ?

That makes me really mad..

And when were talking about differences, which are the differences between 04/05 and 05/06 8090's at all ?

Thanks

Sven, small as in length, or small as in width, or both? Also I'm assuming you bought the same width (D or E) as you tried on. How small are we talking here, since most skates get a big bigger as they're broken in.

Was there a big temperature change from when you tried them on to when you got them? Also, has your weight fluctuated at all???

I'm not being facetious, seriously I think these things can affect skate fit.

I swear my skates feel a lot tighter in the summer or if I've been on my feet all day.

But the other day, I hadn't eaten for hours and it was freezing cold. Went to the rink and again, I swear my skates were too big.

Just to make sure I wasn't crazy, I put my skates on that same night before I went to bed and they fit pretty well. I had just taken a hot shower and eaten a lot.

Now I'm not saying this can drastically alter foot size for everyone, but my mom said it's the same thing w/ her wedding ring. Tight in the summer, loose in the winter. And that's not including weight change.

No, just lengthwise, the width is fine.

Sure, they will break a bit it in, but i want a bit of space in the toebox.

Once i had skates which fitted like these and i couldnt stand it.

Heh, no my weight hasn't changed and there was nothing different than today.

Its such a significant difference in fit, i would have noticed it 100%.

Its pretty annoying.

You're right temperature does play a factor. Basically your feet expands abit when it is hot, but it isn't only a person's body. Everything expands, for example: the door to my room; in the fall, winter, and spring, my door closes fine, but in the summer when it gets extremely hot and I don't have the air conditioning on, I have to reach pull and push to get my door open.

As for your skates, is it possible that when you were trying on skates at the store, the D or EE width might have been switched out of place with the box? I tried on the Bauer Supreme 8090's in store this week and I noticed their is no tag on the tongue of the skate to tell you the size nor width. Just a thought.

The door is caused by humidity more than temperature.

Chadd, could you check the first post and the main problem/question ?

Thanks a lot.

How much of a difference are we talking about? Did you try them on at the same time of day? Your feet tend to swell a little by the end of the day. There is always the slight chance they were not tagged correctly or that the pair you tried on had been worn by several other people and expanded slightly in terms of width.

No, the difference is so significant, it CANNOT be a reason of feet-sweel or whatsoever !

I wore the skate 30 minutes snug tied in the store and i couldnt touch the toecap. Now when i just slip the skate on, i can feel the toecap and that is what i dont want/like. Basically i need a 9EE now, when i was in the store i tried a 8.5EE on and it was how i wanted it.

I wear the same kind of socks now as in the store.

So, could it be possible that theres a change between those versions ?

I wouldnt produce such a trouble if i wasnt completely sure..

Your foot is probably being pushed forward because the boot is new and stiff. After the skates have been worn a few times your heel will settle back deeper into the rear of the boot, away from the toe box! I have always worn a Bauer 6 D. Since Vapor 8, 7000 and now Vapor XX I have felt the toe box at the front when the boots are new out of the box. After a few skates and baking the boot, my foot came off the toe box on all 3 boots. I believe the boot will break in and your foot will come back off the toe box in time.

Of course your are right. But i dont wanna make the same mistake like i did once before. So i have to change the skates from 8.5EE to 9EE.

I just dont understand it, but there MUST be a difference...

If I were you I'd keep the current skates and wear them for a few games since they're a bit tight length wise, but fine width wise. If they still feel cramped length wise you can get them stretched. If you get the 9's they may be too long and there isn't really anything that can be done about that.

I've had skates that have felt snug when I first got them and after they break in they've expanded so much that I get some heel movement unless I really tie them tight which is far from ideal. If you start with a skate that is a touch long this type of problem is even more likely.

yes keep the skate.

have u baked it yet??

your foot will move back after break in (the padding will form to your foot) and the toe box will be fine.

Oh, I remember trying on my 8090's in the store... like my heel wasn't in the back unless I literally SLAMMED my foot down with em on. Did you do that in the store and then not do it now? Because you foot does slide back.

Glad I remembered that. :)
