Clear TUUK Retro Factor

Recommended Posts

I just wanted to see what kind of feedback I could drum up about the new clear or translucent Tuuk holders. I loved the old clear holders and am more than happy that Tuuk brought them back. There are quite a few posts out there where people don't like them.

The old clear Tuuk's were cool. I had them on a pair of Daoust 301 Nationals. Unfortunately they discoloured after a while & turned a light browen colour!!

I also had a pair of blue Tuuk's on Daoust 301 Super Nationals. They were great looking skates. I remember seeing green Tuuk's too but they may have been painted. Did they used to make Tuuk's in different colours?

Also whatever happened to ICM Supersteel blades & Perfecta?

Lastly the Daoust 301 skates were simply the best. I still have a pair of 301 Special Nationals that were black & white. I put rollerblades on them a few years ago.

Hey, thanks for the reply.

I'm kind of excited that Tuuk has released or is going to release the clear holder again. My wife and I were watching a game the other night and I can't remember who was wearing them but I kind of thought they almost looked silver and I think that is what I found I liked about them, they almost look like the old school steel runners.

I'm 33 now and the clear Tuuks have somewhat of a nostalgic factor for me, I remember them from when I was a kid, I heard a few rumors about them shattering but never owned a pair myself.

I was thinking about buying them when they come out and having them installed on my Graf G9's.

Rebellion has a truely clear holder.

I can see the translucent TUUKs looking like crap after a while, like the old clear ones. All the dirt, grime and rust will probably show through and just look ugly.

National Sports still has some blue TUUKs kicking around. Our Misssissauga location had them all shipped to our Clearance store. There were mostly large sizes though--in the 288 and up range.

There was simply no black dye added to the holder. Walla! Its clear. I remember my Daoust rep showing me the 301 with the clear holder. It must have been 1979 or 1980.

Hey JR those Perfecta blades were a pain to sharpen. Hardest steel on the market. You always had to dress the wheel when the Perfectas were on the jig. Also, what was the name of the Tuuk steel where they thinned out the blade? Another stupid idea from the 80s. That lasted less than a year. I used to refuse to sharpen them. Otherwise, it was I'll sharpen them at your risk, not mine.

The Rebellion clear holder is made of Polycarbonate instead of Nylon. That's the only way to achieve that glass-like look. I wonder if that affect the feel of the holder any. I think the old clear Tuuks were the same--Polycarbonate instead of Zytel(Nylon). What are the new Power runners made from?

Tuuk V2. Early 90s, they lasted a couple years in the line. The guy I worked for at the time used them, he swore by them...

I loved the clear Tuuks, I had a pair myself back in the days on a pair of Daoust skates I had a long time ago.

Speaking of colored Tuuks, I also remember seeing some guy using red Tuuks (I think it was Tuuks but I'm not totally sure, it was like 15-20 years ago), anyone heard of or seen red ones before?

Thanks, V2 is correct. I couldn't pull that name out of the files.

I was told by the plastics expert who works for PACROW developing steel and holders, that the material in the clear holders is not the same as the whites. It's not a -dye, no dye- issue. Different material, not as durable as the white. Can't remember all the details, but what he told me made sense. Next time I talk with him, I'll get more info.
