Cleaning My Visor

Recommended Posts

So I got my Oakley Visor today, I've been wearing a cage all my life, so this is my first visor. I have some questions about cleaning it.

First off, whats the best way to clean it? Warm water maybe? How do you guys clean yours?

Also, should I only use AFR cleaner that Okaley makes?

Thanks.

There's a chance anything other than AFR will screw up the anti-fog coating so I would avoid using any other chemicals around the visor. They're nice but a major pain in the ass.

I have an Oakley as well and have had 1Xcel in the past (same as Oakley). Like Chadd said only use their solution but I never use it. I just clean the inside/outside with a paper towel that has a drop or two of water on it and then dry it off with dry papertowel.

Only use the AFR solution to clean the inside of the visor. Oakley visors are designed to absorb moisture and release it through the bottom. Any chemicals other than the AFR solution on the inside will cause the shield to crystalize and will ruin it.

Yes, a lint-less towel is fine but I've been had visors for 6 years and never scratch them---you just don't put a lot of pressure. Either is fine.

True, and this is a pain in the ass...

What about Itech? I'm playing with the Pro Wave and clean it with some regular window chemical (via spraybottle) and dry it off with a lint-less towel and it seems to work very well.

Itech's don't have any common problem with cleaning solutions, or?

Does that include water?

I just started using the oakley visor, I was told to use the afr cleaner inside and out. I just wipe off any water or sweat. I have had no problems.I just spray before I go on the ice.

I've never had a problem with the Itechs. I just wish they made something like the Oakley Straight Small.

I've been using the same visor for about two years now. I clean it with regular window cleaner/soft cloth then wipe a little Rain X on the inside for fogging.

When it starts to get sctratched up I use Blue Magic plastic polish to buff out the fine scratches.

Rain X and the pastic polish are available at auto parts stores.

what about the old shampoo trick? good or no

i rub baby shampoo on my itech hs22 till it becomes murky, then buff it off with a microfibre towel. it hardly fogs on me, but it could be because i only play bear leageeeue and bearly try
