He was a defensive rock. They don't pay him to score, his job is to keep the opposition from scoring, and he did an ACE job.

EDIT: The Armenian goalie played the full 60. I'd have hated to be in for 50 goals. What's his GAA now?

C'mon now guys, you're talking about a junior powerhouse in Iceland. Where's Gunnar Stall and Wolf "The Dentist" Stansson?! Don't ask me how I remember those names. That aside, I also remember a scene in one of those Ducks movies where they panned over the scoreboard and Canada had an 0-2 record or something ridiculous like that. Nice try, fellas. :lol:

And in their next game they lost to Bulgaria 21-2 and one guy was amazingly +1.

Emil Alengard was pretty dominating, had 24 shots in the first period alone. Seems to me when you look at statistics that he is by far their star player. And after the first period he got benched alot of shifts (either for not playing the puck, or to give more time to the bench-warmers)

You don't have 24 shots in the first frame and 33 in total unless you get benched (or a minor injury).

At least this kid Emil Elengaard is one of the two kids playing outside Iceland, he is playing for Linkopings HC in sweden. I also saw that he had dual citizenship : isl/swe.

It's pretty save to say I've played a couple of these guys on a junior tournament in Iceland, a couple of years ago. I remember the coach of their junior team was a russian guy which played in the Russian Hockey League with CSKA Moscow. Their top league is mainly amateur with only a couple of lost Slovakians and this Russian guy, as far as I know. They were stationed there because of their jobs. If these junior players stay in Iceland there is not much room for them to develop more as a player. So this is a pretty strong result for them I guess. Maybe he was the only guy on the team that has some sense of respect. I know I wouldn't participate in the attack if the score was up to 10-0. I refuse to score on an empty net when the other teams keeper is late. Then again It may be a team of dirty shmucks that I would ,love to run up the score.

btw, how many of you would actually try to score when the score is 10-0 in the first period? hockey and international competition is also about sportsmanship, and respect. i remember a high school game where the score could easily have been something like 30-0, but my team "held it back" to like 10-1, just because we weren't trying to totally humiliate the other team.
