he better win calder

or else this new myNHL is rigged.

I agree 100%. The way the NHL is marketing Crosby and not Ovechkin as well is ridiculous. Those two are the new "Gretzky and Lemieux" type marquee in the NHL and they need to be advertised.

There's still a few months left. One sweet goal shouldn't win you the Calder.

It was an ok play, not goal of the year or anything. It was more HORRIBLE goaltending and bad defense.

bad defence? he knock him on his ass it wasnt the defenders fault he made the efford to get the goal. it was pritty brutal goaltending tho. it was still an amazing goal.

How about carrying your team on your back without any offensive help and scoring 28% of your teams goals? Maybe he shouldn't get the Calder.

Maybe he should get the Hart and the Calder.

Not if they don't make the playoffs, which is highly unlikely (Hart)

If they do make the playoffs he better win it. I don't think they have a chance.

Just realized that AO shares my birthday (September 17)... guess I'll make this kid my top fav player now ;-)

What about you, Theo?

he had another very nice goal last night. Beat the d-man one on one and sniped it top corner... also added an assist and a shoot-out goal as well.

His shot velocity is outstanding. I would put his snapper/wrister up there with Sakic or Niewendyke in his prime.

I wouldn't call it hype. He's showing up every night and proving to people that he is the real deal. I only wish he was on a western team so I could watch him play more than once a year. Every night when they show the caps highlights, the kid just puts on highlight reel performance. Aside from the beautiful goals he scores, he throws huge hits, has tons of great moves and setups, and is always going hard out there. This guy is so impressive I've ALMOST forgotten he's Russian...I just keep waiting for him to pull a kovalchuk and do a swan dive after an empty net goal...I know where my vote for Calder would be, that's for sure.

I have noticed, from watching his goals, does anyone else think he gets a little too excited when he scores? I understand the one against the Yotes, that was pure amazement, but some other ones it looks as if he showboats his goals. Anyone agree?

if you watch his games, he gets just as excited about his teammates goals as he does his own. He really just wants his team to win, not just for himself to score.

Yeah i kinda agree but i just think he is showing emotion. Remember he is still young.

I think doing it for every goal in the context he does makes it irrelevant. Yes, a tap in or empty netter doesn't deserve a huge celebration but he is doing it for all the right reasons. As long as he doesn't pull something like crest showoff I am pretty sure he did against the US in the '05 WJC semi-final I see no reason to nitpick his celebrations. It is part of his personality and it's almost as if he doesn't know better, probably one of the reasons people are so drawn to him beyond being an awesome player.

I love that aspect about them...sure if he just did it for himself it would be different but he just loves hockey and his team scoring goals, if you ever listen to him talk, he says the word "goal/ goals" every single sentence.
