Ok! I play defense and for years I have used a 110 flex; Because all you D's know I would say all we do is pass,one-time and slap.(For the most Part) the only time I usually wrist is to dump in to the offesnsive zone. But lately I have found myself having a pretty bad wrist shot with my Z-Bubble 110 flex. And I was thinking of stepping down to a 100...I don't think anything less would work for me I hate whippy sticks :( So I was wondering in the world of all these Hi-Tech sticks is there a way to figure out your correct flex? And another thing does flex point play a major role? So if anybody could help that would be great!

It's trial and error for the most part and getting what you are comfortable with. I remember we did a poll of body size and weight, compared to stick flex and height. The average flex was 60% a persons weight. I haven't noticed a huge difference in flex points making the shaft whippier or stronger, I think the length does more.

Most of it depends on what you like. I prefer an 85 flex because I can use it to make any kind of shot. I find that I do take a lot of wrist shots. I find that it is often easier to get a wrist shot through traffic and on net than a slap shot.

Im a defencemen aswell, i mostly try to get 110 flex as i take majority slap shots or quick snap shots, I cant stand having a whip to my shot as it feels like the stick is going to break, thats why i also changed the shafts in my golf clubs to steel, one the wind up i feel the shaft/club bend.

I take a lot of shots from the point and the lower flex allows me to get the shots away with less effort. The only time I take a big windup is when I want to scare the forwards and open a lane to the net. I use a 90-95 most of the time.

I remember talking to you last time and you have me convienced that I am using to High of a flex but sticks are'nt cheap. :P So I guess thats why I posted this thread. It looks like it is just trial and error..I was hoping there was some type of formula or something but it looks like I will just have to figure it out for my self.

Thanks!

Although normally a forward, I've been playing D for the last couple of years. Anything in the range of 85 to 95 is my preference.

It varies for me, depends on the situation. Most of the time I play, I use an 85 for the all around passing, wristshot, slapshot. But for powerplay and penalty kill situations, I find I like using a really stiff stick for slappers from the point and to clear the zone so on those situations I use 100+ flex. Different flexes I find work for different situations.

I weigh about 160 and im about 5'8 and i use an 85, usually your position wouldn't effect which flex you use so much as your height and weight, but in the end its all preference, find what you like and perform at the highest level with, no formula can tell you what you like.

Well if the junior suits you don't change, I mean use what you like that would be my suggestion, but based on your height and weight you wouldn't have too much trouble using an intermediate stick.

iam 5' 7" 136 lbs D man

used 65-85 flex over the last year and found that too whippy not always bad.

Actually i found it easier and effortless to get a quick slapper off.

Edit ( and less back swing )
