Comp-O-Stick tape....

Recommended Posts

Hockey Giant doesn't carry it anymore. They carry "Gear" marked tape, which one of the kids working there told me was comp-o-stick tape, just with the gear name on it... <_<. I didn't really believe him though....

I also read something in the sell forum about Easton having something to do with Comp-O-Stick now.

Can anyone clarify this for me? I tried a search but couldn't find anything.

It is very durable compared to say Renfrew and also seems to be better at repelling water.

They added a nice USA and Canada tape this year. :) Since switching to all comp-o, my customers tell me they like it better.

Maybe you should believe him. He is correct.

I've received some pretty inaccurate information from the guys at Giant and Hawk over the years, hence the skepticism.

But thanks for clearing it up. :)

Its the best tape around in my opinion....Rumor is Easton bought the company.

No, not the case. They were looking at offering tape and they tested all brands and Comp-O won out...

And now it's SMU...........?

So will Easton's version of the tape actually say "Easton" on the tape itself? Or only on the cardboard "hub" like the Gear version of it?

It is the best tape - for stick blades.

But I strongly advise using it on the butt-end, as it tore the hell out of the palm of a brand new pair of pro-stock Robitaille HG1's I had. I use Renfrew for the grip and it works great, but on the flip side, Renfrew sucks on the blade, but that's where Comp-O-Stick comes in. :)

As far as what happened on your gloves, maybe it was the palms? Do you grip your top hand "over the top" of the knob? Just wondering...

I don't think it was the palms...but I could be wrong.

I don't grip over the top, I know that! :)

Besides tearing up the palm a bit, it also created a lot of "sticky" residue all over the fingers, moreso than Renfrew, Jaybird or Tape-O ever did.

Andover maybe? I've had pretty good luck with that but comp-o is very good.

I got the same stuff all over my 8Ks and 6Ks from Comp-O-Stick. If anyone knows an easy way to get that crap off, besides rolling it off with my fingers, I'd appreciate it.

Try tweezers ;)

Seriously, I was in the same boat....I ended up selling them before the holes got too bad. But to get rid of the "stickiness" feeling, I ended up getting a big wad of toilet paper and rubbing it all over the palms and it kinda worked for a while.

Don't ask me how and why I came up with toilet paper. I was desperate....lol.

I had a minor problem with that with some tape a while back (can't remember if it was Renfrew or Andover), and I got some baby powder and rubbed it into the tape on the butt-end, and I haven't had the problem since.
