5000 or 8000

Recommended Posts

Bauer 5000 are certified but they dont provide as good protection my recomendation is get that B8000 or the Bauer 4000 also the nike 0004 is a great helmet

Holy crap the Nike 0004 is the biggest piece out there for protection beacuse it has so much less padding then the 8000. I have to wear an 0004 for high school and anytime I get hit in the head it hurts alot more then my 8000 that I wear for travel. Why is it that I wear a large 8000, and it perfect size, then I put on my large 0004 and its huge?

keep your head up then, the 4000/0004 is the best helmet on the market. get one that fits. no where anywhere does it say u get more concussions in 4000s then 5000/8000

Okay it doesn't say that you get more, it is just that my school has the problem with concussions with the 0004, maybe we should switch to the 5000 or the 8000 to test that thoery.

theory has been tested in show, 4000 is best hands down.

I liked the Nike 0004,but I got hit and the shell cracked and it doesnt go down far enough in the back for my liking. Its a nice helmet and all,but i'll stick to my 8K and 5000.

I think the term you are looking for is occipital

I don't know...maybe this helmet is what's helping him do his job?

I have had a lot of concussions and the best helmet i have worn was the mission carbster. the one piece constraction helps with impacts, if you can get your hands on ones they are great. i have one that i dont use, i wore it only a few times till i started playin noncheck mens league. let me know if you want it.

All I can tell you is I had a Bauer 4000 before and when I was checked and hit my head I saw stars and had a headache for a day after, but while wearing the 8000 the check happened in the same way and I was surprised that it was just like not hitting my head at all into the ice at all, got right up and had no ill effects, the helmet was very protective. So for me the 8000 is the one.

Out of all the helmets I've worn I find the carbster the most comfortable one...the fact that I've read it's one of the best helmets for concussion protection is just a bonus. I used to wear the Nike 004 helmet..it was a bit lighter, but not as comfortable and when I took shots to the head I'd feel it more than with the carbster (I haven't had any concussions that I know of with any helmet). Until I find something more comfortable and protective or something happens to my Carbster and I can't find another Large Black one then I plan on using the Carbster. If it fits your head and you can find one I think it's a great value right now..I picked mine up for under $50 Canadian shipped to Canada from the US about 6 months ago. When they first came out they were like $149 US plus tax.

they were like 20 bucks on hockeygiant for a while.

Which is a fantastic deal if you're in the US...however if you're in Canada hockey giant charges a lot for shipping, plus you'll get hit with brokerage fees...you'd probably end up paying triple that price if you're in Canada...still pretty good, but not as good as if you were in the US. I bought mine off someone on ebay who was willing to ship via USPS. I couldn't find any locally or in Canada online.

It's a carbster.

Carbster?

Well according to the article, Jönsson went to Missions factory in Anaheim and those inline gurus measured his head and made this custom helmet. It's supposed to be 40% safer then a ordenary hockeyhelmet according to a North American investigation. Mission helmets are not NHL certefied, and therefor can not have any Mission loggos on it....

All according to the article in the Swedish newspaper Aftonbladet (Eveningpost).

Well, i really dont know.

It does look like a carbster based on that pic..some things may be custom, but it's based on a carbster. Mission helmets can certainly be worn in the NHL as several players have the new Intake helmets and a few have had the Carbster for a while (McCauley, Carter).

Fredrik - Jonsson is wearing a Carbster - which was on the retail market a few years ago. I own 3 of them :)

The reason why there aren't any Mission logos on it anymore is because they do not pay the licensing fee to display the logo in the NHL anymore. McCauley and Carter still wear them (does Leopold?)

I think it's just a coincidence. The B5000 is a great helmet. Certified, just like the rest of them. It's not the helmet. Going to a 8000 will get you no improvement.

8000 is alot better then the 5000...I have had both and the 8000 has a great reputation for being a "latest and greatest for head protection". I have been hit a couple times in the head with a puck, in the 8000 and it still hurts but not like any other helmet I have Had :o

How often do you get hit in the head with a puck? I can count the number of times I've been dinged on one hand.

Leopold still wears a Carbster with the Mission "winged M" logo on the front like that found on the Mission Intake.

With the new Intake helmet, they obviously paid for the rights this year. Last season, they did not.

This year in leauge I started dropping for shots and the last 2 games I swear they are aiming for my head. It's hard for them to score when the puck never gets to the net :P

What league are you playing in? Takes some dedication to drop to block shots.
