12 wins in their first 55...That's a win every 4.6 games...call it 5.

By that math with 27 games left...they might win 5 more. Give 'em 1 two game winning streak in there somewhere and call it a season at 18 wins.

18-50-14. Probably bad enough for another First Overall. Take the Johnson kid...they need the D Help.

After the Olympics aren't they going to be playing more games against the teams in their division? Philly, NYR, NYI, NJ will be what 16 of those 27?

If they pretty much turn the team into the WBS penguins like they did in 03-04, then yeah. If they keep Recchi and Leclair around, no.

It doesn't get much easier for them I'm going to say no because a lot of the teams they are playing will be fighting for playoff positioning.

recchi actually tries hard and puts up points. leclair can go, gonchar can go, thibault can go. free up money, sign someone actually worth a sh*t. for the time being, id be happy with 15 wins.

Looking at the scheduale a lot depends on how they play the Islanders, if NYI makes a playoff run then no but if they deal away some guys at the deadline maybe Pitt can get them for a game or two while moral is low and just hit that 20 win mark. To be honest though, it's pathetic a team with so much individual skill at the start of the year is going to finish below teams like Washington and even Columbus, Chicago and St Louis.

Congrats Penguins, you are the new cellar dwellars of the NHL, with an even worse record than St Louis! I didn't even know that was possible!

What a dissappointing year. At the beginning of the season I pumped the pens up and said they would be fine defensivly and they would be a contender, and I will man up and admit I was wayyyyyyyyyy wrong. I thought i'd spend all my money going to pens games this year, and i've been to 3 or 4 , 5 max. I can barley sit through a whole game on TV if there is something else interesting on or another good game on center ice.

I think they could do it. They have 7 games left against the Isles, Fla, and Washington, plus a couple more against Montreal.

I think they'll get the 20 wins in. E Johnson and Whitney could be a solid pairing for the next 20 years and Crosby/Malkin/ Fleury should hold the other aspects together.

Maybe not 20 but they'll come close because they do have a game or 2 against Montreal :P

I'll be at the game on March 18th in Montreal...with my "Hip Hip Huet!" Sign.

I hope Montreal is still playing for a playoff spot by then, and not battling Pitt for First Pick.

The way Pittsburgh is playing lately I find it hard to believe they'll win 13 games this year. I think I heard on the broadcast the other night that they won two, yes two, games in January. Even when they manage to keep it close late in the game Fleury and they're tremendous defense find a way to give up a soft one for the loss.

The reason I think they will is because they've lost a lot of games in OT and shootouts that could have easily gone the other way. Those things even up by the end of the year.

i agree. i sure hope malkin plays as well as A.O. does, or on a similar level, sure would be exciting to watch crosby make nifty passes to a natural born scorer

i voted yes, as in i wish :P

im not really thinking about this season. its just a stretch of games that decide how badly we'll be in last place

im just hoping the las vegas penguins don't exist next year, that it stays in pittsburgh! and that malkin comes in with a good rookie (havent seen any of the prospects, so just saying any rookie).

of course im still gonna watch the games, and hope they win, but i know they aint getting anywhere near the playoffs.

I might be wrong, but I don't remember anyone saying that those guys were not worth a "sh*t" before the season started.. Besides, Gonchar isn't going anywhere with his salary, and LeClair is top-3 offensively almost every game. Thibault is gone (injured) too. They might be able to trade J LeClair to a contending team, but that doesn't make him not worth "sh*t." I think Recchi would like to retire in Pittsburgh; that doesn't mean he won't get traded, but I can't imagine it has not bearing on a team looking to trade for him.

They just forgot that whole thing about having a defensive core...

The lease in Pittsburgh runs through next season, they won't move before the end of next year.
