Recommended Posts

Hey guys, my LHS has some montreal nitro sticks and I hear that theyre True one pieces rather than shaft/blade like tps+synergys, is this true?

Thanks

Ash

I believe that they are fused. If they are the new ones that are black with the neon colours, they have CNT technology used in the shaft and blade rather than just the blade (unlike Easton sticks). I would really like to try the new Nitro Lite OPS or a shaft blade combo. Does anyone know where a person can buy one of these sticks?

The one I have is Teppo Numinen's from when he was with the Stars, so I don't know what the difference (if any) is from the retail sticks.

The weight is decent, but heavier than the ueber lite's. I'd guess that it's under 500 grams, but over 450 (the one I have is the Nitro 8500 black with some sort of red flame pattern).

I liked the mid flex pretty well. A buddy of mine liked it so he bought it. I still have the stiff flex (actually, my buddy tried the stiff first and it was too stiff so I swapped out the mid for the stiff).

I liked the flex of the mid (I had used it in a practice and a few warm ups). The flex was smooth up and down the shaft (meaning, it wasn't stiffer in some areas over the others).

However, the stiff one I have seems different, but I haven't tried it yet so can't fully comment until I do.

Overall? Nice stick. I think if it were even money to that of, say, one of the other major players that I'd get one of the other major players. But you can get the Nitro's these days for under $100 and I'd say it's a better option at that price than, say, a V100 or one of the other price points.

Looks like it will be VERY durable too.

I think the shaft design (the oval interior) has some good science behind it, but might take some getting used to in shooting.

I thought they were one piece too (I have one and there is no sign of a fuse point what-so-ever)

i think theyre put together in the same fashion as Vectors, the blad efused to the shaft

Does anybody have a definitive answer as to whether they are 'true' one pice or not?

The reason I ask is that I currently have one and the blade is now looking worse for wear. Hence I am considering removing the blade (if possible) and replacing it (with a warrior dolomite - jovanovski pattern).

Thanks in advance.

You cant put a blade in it anyways, thew inside of the shaft is oval shaped and you would have to carve down the blade tenon which would make it weaker and it would snap fairly quickly. Put it may be possible to have a wood blade as I shaved down a wood extension to fit into mine.

Wellll...I do have a definitive answer on the first question. I broke mine today and it's a true OPS, it's hollow all the way thru.

And just a question? Has anyone attempted to put a blade in or extension besides whbd? I stuck an extension in for a game and it snapped in warm up. Idk if it's a freak incident or what, but wanna see if it might even be worth trying a blade.

I´m from finland where they do the sticks and i know that they true 1piece sticks The Nitro Nano that Numminen is using is a very good stick they are very durable and light.

The nitro Lite is lighter but i dont know about the performance...

but the Nitro Lite, Nano. sticks i know are done from one piece but i dont know about the others..

I ended up cutting the blade off to find that it definitely is a true one piece - and the inside is oval. I then spend a stupid amount of time shaving the tenon of a wood blade to fit. Unfortunately the shaft doesn't like being heated up / doesn't like the stress of inserting a blade as the outside wrapper of the shaft starts to go transparent and cracks appear as the corners when a blade is inserted. I even flipped the shaft over to have a go at the other end with a butt end to see if it was me, plus cut the shaft again and tried the wood blade again (after shaving it even further) but all to no avail.

If anyone has any useful suggestions, I'm willing to listen, but for the moment it is used to hook my shorts onto so they can dry off the ground....

<edited for spelling>

According to the U.S. distributor at this time they have only been bringing in the Nitro Lite OPS for U.S. Retail sale. The Nitro shaft is not available in the U.S. I was directed to contact the Canadian distributor to see whether or not the shafts are being imported into Canada.

In Europe there are four different OPS Composite sticks that are available that use the nano technology: Nitro Lite, Nitro Force, Nitro Max, and Nitro Grip. There is only one composite shaft in their current line.

The LHS shop where I purchased new shin and elbow pads has the Nitro Lite stick in stock - Delaware Valley Hockey Supply http://www.delvalhockey.com/ (i went to their Bristol location) but they would ship one to you.

You can check for pattern availability at: http://www.montrealhockey.com/index/en/hom...cts/blades.html

however their U.S. distributor does not import all of the patterns.

** Anyone in Finland willing to help me get a couple Nitro shafts and Nitro Force SR blades? or does anyone know of a Finnish Hockey Retailer that does international mail order?

Something on the nano technology used in the new Montreal stick line:

from http://akseli.tekes.fi/opencms/opencms/Ohj...mp;arkisto=true

"Montreal Hybtonite® hockey stick was voted number one Nano product in the world in January, at the world’s biggest Nanotechnology fair inTokyo, Japan.

Well known Nanovip commitee voted Montreal as the leading company of using Nanotechnology. Feedback at the Olympics and Finnish ice hockey league of the Nitro Hybtonite® Nano sticks has been absolutely positive. New technology gives the stick more accuracy, lightness, unique soft feeling for the puck and what important more shooting power!

New university mechanical tests and Montreal team players have proved that Nitro is by far the strongest composite stick to be launched into the international market. More information about the Nitro:

http://www.montrealhockey.com/

The Hybtonite® nanotechnology epoxy resin used in the composite stick is fabricated in Finland by Amroy Europe, Ltd. In addition to hockey stick, Hybtonite® nanoepoxies can be used in marine, automotive, wind energy and in many industrial applications.
