Best Pants

Recommended Posts

I just wrote this on a different thread, but if you're looking for protection talk to SalmingUSA about their pants (the guy's a member here). Quite proctecive and very mobile. A bit heavier than other's I've seen, but none of the lighter fair offered that kind of mobility and protection that I have checked out.

And while Tackla's have a great reputation, they tend to be quite pricey.

SO, if you want something a bit more unique (bet lots of people on your team have CCM's, Eastons, or Tackla's), I'd recommend it as being worth looking at.

id look at like the 892s

Esp. the 892 LE, which I thnk are SMU only. They have the double belt from the CCM Pro model, which I don't think comes on the non=LE 892

If you're looking to buy onine, check out this deal:

http://247hockey.com/pd_tackla_5000.cfm

But it leads me to a question. What is the difference between a senior 46 (30") and a Junior 180 (30"). Because what if your waist is 30"? I usually wear 32" jeans because they are comfortable, but they are pretty loose and I would not want the inside girdle on a 2-piece Tackla pant to be so loose.

Discounthockey.com sells tackla 500 junior for very cheap, is there any difference between a 30" junior and a 30" senior? Other than price of course.

Ok now I'm confused. What are better of the Tacklas the 9000 or the 5000s? Man way to many choices. Looks like I'm going to have to buy a pair of each brand, try them on and send back the ones I dont like.

Leg length. The juniors are a bit shorter.

I like my 9000s but the 5000 is a nice pant as well. It's a two piece pant as someone mentioned and is a really nice pant as well.

I have the 892's. Lots of padding, comfy, zippers on the inseam so I can put my skates on first, then my pants. I loved them until about 2 weeks ago. The 892 has two belts which both failed/broke before a game.

The upper doesn't wrap around your waist, its sewn to the padding. While I was cinching it the buckle side simply tore off. RATS!!

Okay, I have the lower one. Until the PTWANG!! the other buckle breaks and goes flying across the locker room. Now the only thing between me and on ice burlesqe show is the laces and my suspenders.

So I spent the whole game pulling up my pants and the ref even stopped by bench to let me know I was losing my pants.

Determined to not have that happen again I went to Home depot and bought a "lashing strap" with a metal cam buckle. This thing is serious! But my Tacks 892's aren't giving in yet. The lower strap isn't held in place by loops on the outside of the pants, its passed through the pants. So one bent hanger, some duct tape, and alot of cursing later I've got the new belt laced through the pants, trimmed to length, and finally holding themselves up.

I'll keep them 'till I wear them out, but next time I'm thinking I'm going to get the Bauer Supreme Pro (or something like that) girdle. A guy on my team loves them and since you basically wraps them on I can still put my skates on first.

the Vapor XXX Lite pant is different than a CCM, Tackla or even Supreme line pant..

it has a good deal of protection but lacks that "bulky" feel...the pair I have was a leftover from the WJC camp in the summer and while it took me a couple skates to get used to it (coming from 2 different pro stock supreme pants over the past 8 years) they are great..I tried to go back to my old pants for drop in a couple weeks ago...and just felt completely out of whack..

I figure if a dyed in the wool supreme type of guy can get used to them and like them..anyone can

Tackla Air 9000, you wont be disappointed.

Yep... first pair I've ever owned. They've lasted 2+ years with no visible signs of wear at all. Fantastic pant!

Regs,

Jeff

Tacklas have by far always held the throne. I have the 5000X pros and absolutely love them with the zippers. You can go into the locker room after a game, unzip the legs and take them off without even removing your skates. That is priceless.

not with size 12's :D :D

you can, but very very carefully....

I've always gone with Eastons. Had a few pairs and they last forever. You can pick up a pair of the Synergy 700's for about $70 if you shop around a bit. Not as fancy as the Synergy 900 but a great protective pant. ;)

By the way Itech pants aren't too bad but I've found them a bit on the bulky side but still very protective.

Just got a pair of the Salmings. Very protective, great fit, great maneuverability, zippers as well. It think equivalent to the Bauer 6000 at a fraction of the cost.

I like the Easton top of the line pants a little more than the Bauer 8000 pants.

I still use my tackla air 9000 pants and they have always been great but for mobility I am waiting for the vapor line to come out as well as teh new easton pants

You might want to check Itech 7000 Elite pant as well. I've had them for three months. It is comfortable, mobile, and has some good protection with a nice adjustment system.
