Hockey Technology Paper

Recommended Posts

I have to write a paper on the effects of technology on basically anything I want, but I really need this paper to be high quality. I've already searched some of the online databases at my school and found some good stuff, but still not enough to write an A quality paper on. If any of you guys know of any online sources that have some good information on how technology has effected equipment, or really anything to do with the NHL in general I would forever grateful, because I've only got like a week to write this paper. Thanks guys.

You can look for 2 books:

"The Physics of Hockey" by Alain Hache

"The Stick" by Bruce Dowbiggin

They both talk a lot about how technology has changed the equipment and, more importantly, the way the game is played.

E.g. goalie masks allowed the goalies to get lower without being seriously hurt

How many NHL arenas have been built in the last ten years? I know of the MOlson center in Montreal, the Air Canada center in Toronto, the something center in Columbus, the excel? center in Minnesota, any others would be appreciated. THanks in advance.

- composite materials in skates, sticks, gloves

- heat moldable skates

- new and lighter materials used in everything

- durability of materials

- performance demands

I think there are a lot of angles to work from...just how you want to focus on your time and the amount you want to write on each...

you could also show some photos of how hockey equipment has changed in the last few years...

How equipment now protects better and works with the body instead of just covering it...

The amount of technology used in-game; coaches use headsets to communicate, instant replay, full contact with league head office, video screens, tv coverage, radio coverage, photography lighting (flashes), music played during breaks in play, team introductions, lighting...

The Wachovia center in Philly is 10 years old this year. I was there for the first hockey game in the building during the 96 World cup. Verizon center in Washington is right around 10 years too I think.
