Dilemma

Recommended Posts

Okay, here's my problem. I really really really really really really want the Vector Pro's. My 6.0 are taking a beating and I want an extra pair of skates when I play 6 or 7 games in a weekend.

They're 599.99 CND here. Online they're 269.99. Exchange rate would be about 310ish...still better than the 599.99.

Also because the order would be over the limit, the shipping would be free.

Now dont get me wrong, I have bought all my equipment at my LHS, I just can't find one that sells Vector Pro's within my price range right now.

What to do what to do what to do!?

:(

God won't smite you for not shoping at your LHS once (Although Jimmy might..jk). If it fits your price range and you know what fits you, go online. It's great you have a lot of support for your shop, but once won't hurt you and it's almost half the price.

I know which size I need, I've tried them on before and I fell in LOVE. I tried EVERYTHING, but my boyfriend won't buy them for me (big suprise there...) and like I said, my 6.0 are taking a HUGE beating.

I'm gonna see how my job interview goes and if I get it, I'll wait a bit and see if I can get them.

I just feel really guilty.

well if it's any indication...

last year i bought a blade that ran $39.99 usd cause i simply couldn't find it here.

can't recall what shipping was, but hockeymonkey ships via UPS, and i got hit with a $26 CAD duty/brokerage fee at the door.

then another time i bought a pair of gloves off ebay for $39 USD, and they came in a fairly good sized box. Once again, UPS, charged me $36 CAD at the door!

i'm pretty sure it's dependant on the size of the box and cost of the item too. so you may get hit pretty hard...

Anyone in the states you can ship them too? Then that person could ship them USPS and mark it as a gift so there are no fees, but shipping is around $15.

Maybe someone here might help.

If you are paying with visa you total cost would be about $335.00 cdn. Depending on how it is shipped you brokerage fees and taxes could be as high as $100.00. You also need a nafta certificate or you could be hit with extra duties.

In vancouver the 05 vector pros are selling for $399.00 cdn at some stores.

Edit spelling

I was in the same delima. I just recently purchased a pair of 8090's from hockey monkey for $229 U.S. The skates are still priced at $499.99 here at my LHS. I took advantage of their free shipping in the U.S. and had them shipped to a friend of mine in Baltimore. He then fed-ex them to me here. You will definitly get hit with taxes and duties if you get them shipped straight from the states. I dont feel bad for not supporting my LHS the price difference was to substantial. However i did take them in to my LHS and paid to have them baked and paid a little more to have them sharpened for the first time. Money i was happy to spend as i saved nearly 60% on buying them online.

Excuse me, I've been very clear about online shopping. I have NO PROBLEM WHATSOEVER if you shop online, I do it every day. My problem is when you go to your LHS with INTENT to shop online and have the LHS folks size you and waste their valuable time. As long as you don't use your LHS as a showroom for your web shopping, shop online to your hearts content. It doesn't hurt to ask your LHS if they can match the deal. All they can say is no. For example, my Vector Pros are on sale right now for less than $275, and that price includes heat molding, sharpening, and service after the sale. No "hidden" handling fees either.

Jimmy is right if you are shopping on line don't waste everyone's time at stores trying stuff on or asking for tech info.

I found that if you support most of your local businesses in the long run it will be cheaper for you. Usally if you show support you will get discounts or services in return for free or at a great discount.

I support my lhs buy purchasing most of my gear and team jerseys from them. In return I have not paid to shrarpen my families skates for about two years. Just my skates alone ar about once every week.

I do understand that sometimes the price gap is just to great but with out our support you will not have an lhs to go to. Just think of how many minor league teams lhs's support in sponsor ships.

Just remember, if you buy from hockeymonkey and everything is OK, you'll be fine. If something screws up, my experience is that you're screwed. Not really nice people down there.

My skates got back today, my friend (who works in the mailroom here on campus) said he'll give them to me tomorrow morning at breakfast. It's going to be sickening to see them again, hole and all.

looney is making a good point. if you're in Calgary, you have good shops around. that are supporting minor hockey. get your bf to go and buy you some skates... be like "hey honey would you buy me any skates i wanted, no matter how pricey?" but seriously you don't often get a gf with a passion for hockey... and if you do you're willing to support it. tell him that :P

I'd be willing to help you if you need help. I've got $150 credit with them that I kept to avoid restocking fees through a refund. I'd like to get that out of there. Just a few extra bucks for gas to the UPS Store and shipping would be fine for me.

Wouldn't hurt to ask your LHS what sort of deal they could make you. I did that when I found a pair of skates much cheaper somewhere else. Explained that I wanted to buy from them but couldn't ignore the bargain. They couldn't match the price, but it's not like they were mad at me for asking. Wasn't even internet.. just two local shops, one with a killer closeout.
