Salming USA out of business ?

Recommended Posts

That's a shame. The Salming equipment was selling good and I had planned on selling a whole lot more in 2006. I sold virtually every piece I had. Jason (SalmingUSA) was excellent to deal with, very responsive, unlike many other manufacturers. The bottom line is he risked a lot to get Salming in the States. Hockey equipment is a tough business. The equipment is good, so folks I recommend you help the guy out and buy a few things from him. Prices are right too.

It appears that only skates are left.

No, I have sticks, gloves, socks, jerseys and some pants also, but I haven't had the opportunity to flex my web-authoring muscles. ;) I'll try to add those pages in the next couple of days.

I certainly would appreciate it if some of you who have been considering trying the products gave them a whirl now. And please send the link to your teammates. It would make married life far more tranquil.... :D

I've been considering buying Salming products because they've gotten good feedback. Defintely look to buy once you get the inventory listed.

Good luck on everything though!

I think everybody knows that I am a huge supporter of Salming. Ever since I got my skates, I have found a brand that I can trust and who really cares about their customers. It really breaks my heart to see the company go under here in the US. Go read the reviews and see for yourself that it is great equipment.. Try and beat their prices too.. its impossible for the quality you get.

That's too bad SalmingUSA seems like a good guy. Sorry for your tough luck. I'll keep an eye on the site and will see if I can help out. Don't need skates though.

Thanks, JJ. Outside of stating that I've probably never met a conversation I didn't like, I think most people would say I'm a good guy. Well, everybody but my wife....

Regarding why Sweden made this decision, at the time they thought they had a stronger firm to take over. However, since then, the main investor decided not to become involved. My understanding is an order had already been placed, though, so I would assume they've scrambled to secure financing.

if i knew the skates fit me well i'd order a pair, but unfortunately i've never tried them on...i don't think i've ever seen them in a store here (socal).

unless anybody can tell me if they'd fit similar to a graf 703? the guy on epinions said they're kind of wide, but with a narrow heel (which i need)...

i'll definitely check out the other stuff once its added to the site...and best of luck :]

It sucks that Jason/Salming USA has lost their US distribution rights..I mean we already have a "Jason" on this board, so we need to get him a new MSH name...

one thing that surprised me was to read that Chadd was a rep of theirs for the past couple months. I'm not a MSH founder, but part of the ideal I had thought was that there was no direct link to companies, people were avid hockey fans or had shops, but no one worked directly for a brand? Just seems like a conflict of interest imo when you oversee a site that is 85% based on product advice

i think the point is just that nobody badmouth companies because they work for a competitor, or promote a company just to benefit themselves.

from what i've seen of him, he'd only recommend a product to us if he really believed in it - not just to sell something.

And hes been brutally honest about every product he has had his hands on..

I'm not questioning his integrity, it would have been correct for MSH'ers to know that up front before this,

i understand what you're saying...

but then what's the difference between him being a rep for them or him selling the brand at his shop?

or jason working for salming, justin for mission, etc...

as long as they're honest i'm OK with it - they've all been really helpful IMO...

consumers have other items to try on and base their decisions in a shop..

Jason and Justin are users on the site, just like people from Eagle, NBH, Kor and others.

If Jason or Justin were Mods on the site, how would you feel about it? Would there not be a rightful shred of doubt when they gave advice on gear?

This is the same boat, since early '06, Chadd has been working for Salming USA, he's entitled to try and make ends meet in the hockey world, my point was that when it happened, there should have been a post mixed in with his millions that alerted people, its shady otherwise..

It was something I had to really consider before signing on with Jason/Salming. In the short time that I worked with Jason, I have gone out of my way not to speak of the product here in anything other than an unbiased manner.

Due to the timing of Libra's decision my involvement as a rep for Salming was very brief. I was contacted by the firm who was supposed to assume US distribution but they have not provided enough information for me to feel comfortable with them moving forward.

I didn't want my position here to push more people to Salming and I feared that a post like that could be construed as excessive promotion of the brand.

I'm speaking for Chadd, here, but my guess why he didn't mention it is he wasn't able to fully get the repping off the ground.

One of the products he was hoping to carry was exorbitantly late in getting samples to him, but he had been holding off going out to the shops until he basically gave up on this company. At that point, he started visiting shops with the Salming line and Funk Free, and had been in conversations with Oggie (and maybe others), but shortly thereafter I got the news.

So he had only been showing the product for about a month before the largest line was taken away. Since we spoke about it, I'm quite confident he would have let people know he was repping if events had transpired differently.
