Does anyoen else think there needs to be an Offensive Defensman Award?

I mean, Yeah...McCabe was great offensively, but is he really good enough DEFENSIVELY to be called the Best Defenseman in the League.

I would propose that the Norris still go to the Best All Around D-man. (Offence/Defence combined). But give an second Award to the guy who excels Offensively. Maybe like an Art Ross for D-Men. It could go to the The Highest scoring based strictly on numbers (which means, in theory the same guy could win the Norris and this Award) or it could be subjective and be voted on.

I would also propose that it be called the Bobby Orr Award.

Yes, it does, a forward could easily win both the Hart and Art Ross so that is fair. Guys like Pronger shouldn't be practically inelligible for the updated Norris just because they have a heavy shot and can make an outlet pass.

In terms of McCabe, a lot of people on here were giving it to him after the first half, he must have been doing something right in his own end as well because I don't recall any Visnovsky mentions.

I don't like the idea of an automatic award for offensive numbers or the idea of giving an award of any type to a one-dimensional player.

I'm the same, I'm not really a fan of the Richard award, not that it is set in stone at least. I'd rather it be for the "best finisher" than most goals (automatic).
