Hopefully I can get rid of this lease, and if I can I'll be looking towards a Honda Accord. 35 miles to the gallon is over twice what I'm getting now. Consider a car payment of about half, and I'm saving $500 per month. <_<

That's great to hear. I have a few friends that love them as well. I know it's no luxury car, but you can't beat dependability and fuel discounts.

Amazing how all the domestic cars are now looking like the Honda, Toyota Etc

Good luck with the Honda :-)

If I can get into one, my friend. I've got to get out of the Avalanche, first. :(

My sister just bought a Toyota Matrix - lots of space, especially with the seats folded down. Front passenger seat folds down also to accommodate 8' long 2x4 studs. Decent handling and power.

My wife drives a 2002 SVT Focus. Great handling for a factory hatchback, good brakes, decent power (around 170 hp) and good economy if driven reasonably sensible.

Both of those are 'taller' hatchbacks - may be a style to look at a bit more. I'd pick a peppy 4 cyl. over a 6 cyl. right now.

I just saw one in the lot today as I was leaving work...nice looking car. I've heard of People putting 300,000 KM + on Toyota's...with very little maintenance outside of routine stuff.

I like that possibility.

I think I'm staying in a small car...just a matter of which one...like I said, it's about 6mths away (hopefully). I appreciate everyone's input.

Do yourself a favor and test drive a bunch !

Ugh, maybe I'm biased against Toyota because my sister has a Prius and I don't see how she can punish herself trying to get in and drive that thing.

I'm hoping that the smart cars are available in the US soon. I want the roadster.

They are in Canada...but I've only seen the "bubble" style ones. What does the roadster look like?

Cars that are a bit bigger than a golf cart and you can almost pick them up. Their small and "cute"(keep feminine comments to yourself!). Good luck getting half a hockey bag in them though.

Oh, ok. Let me get this straight:

Fuel economy City estimate: 4.6 l/100 km

Highway estimate: 3.7 l/100 km (manual)

3.8 l/100 km (automatic)

Combined estimate: 4.2 l/100 km

261 miles to the gallon- CITY?! 230 mpg highway. GAWD.

i second the recommendation of the toyota matrix. i have one an love it. i get about 28-32mpg. the matrix is classified as a small suv.

the rear seats are 60/40 split. great for carrying stuff. i've had my son in his car seat in the car with about 20 2x6x8s and he had plenty of room.

the matrix and vibe come off the same line. the difference are cosmetic only. as matter of fact my stock radio is a delco.

the best advise is to drive alot of different cars. and find the one that suits your needs best. you could as try looking at consumer reports they have a great car buying guide each year.

...the matrix and vibe come off the same line...

Does that mean when/if repairs are needed you can use Pontiac/domestic parts. That is the knock I've heard on foreign built vehicles. They are very reliable...but if you do need parts they are expensive, and you usually have to wait for them.

Actually , this is not correct , there are a ton of parts out there for imports. There are a ton of companies that make remanufactured parts. I bought a whole front bumper for my civic brand new for 80.00

A guy I play with drives a Smart or an Avalanche. He has to fold down the seat of the Smart to get his gear in, and his sticks reach up on the dash.

However, since he drives a lot, he has saved enough on fuel for the Avalanche to make a couple of the monthly payments on the Smart. Very tempting... hard to argue with that!
