Pants Fitting: Snug or Loose?

Recommended Posts

I'm overdue for some new pants, but I seem to fall between adult small and medium. The data: I'm 5' 8" and a size 32 waist.

The small is snug, the hip pads are in the right spot but, the kidney pads fall just a little bit short and I feel like I need to hike the pants up a bit squishing the place where my kids live (my nutz).

The medium feels like clown pants (suspenders required) loose with lots of space inside. If I line up my hip pads, the kidney pads reach my mid-rib cage (too high). All together leaves me wondering if this will really protect me, or if the pads will just move around too much.

Is there a golden rule about fitting I don't know about? Thanks in advance for the advice.

Take a look at the Mission L series pants. They are two piece pants with two set of buttons so you can change the length by a couple inches in a minute or less.

Personal preference issue. I like my pants a little looser fitting but covering a little bit over my shins knee section in length. Usually buy Eastons because they tend to be a bit longer than most other brands. I do have a pair of Jofa 9500's that are a bit shorter but still have a loose fit as well.

i'm guessing it's all PP

Personally I like it loose, because when my pants are tight I tend to get out of breath faster than if I leave it undone with suspenders on. Tacklas seem to be snug enough to not have to be done up if you have suspenders on

I love my 9000s, snug on the hips and loose everywhere else.

I just recently got the Mission L5's. The 2 piece is very nice as I got alter the length. I am 5'10" 175 and wear a M. My PP is a to feel the pants around my hips but loose and long in the legs.

I'm 5'7 and have a size 30-32" waste depending on the brand.. I currently have a CCM 652's in adult small and the stupid spine protector messes with the spine protection of my Easton Stealth s5 shoulder pads, it didn't used to overlap with my old bauer shoulders, I guess the easton's come down further, but this is off topic. I usually hike my pants a little higher, not because of the kidney pads, but because even though its a size small, its still too long. I like the bottom of the pants to be at the top of the knee, I don' tlike the overlap as if I'm wearing baggy shorts or something, so thats why I hike them up a little higher than normal, which is probably also the cause of the spine protector overlap. these pants are old anyways, I'd like to find the shortest pants available, although I'd probably fit a Jr. X-large in the waste, that would just be embarrasing to have that size. as far as being loose, I have big legs so the pants are a little snug, not limitting mobility at all, but sometimes i just keep the zippers undone which makes them really loose. so if i was you, I would get the adult small and just keep the zippers at the leg a little open.

heh i was in the same situation as you. can't decided between small or medium..

ultimately, i went with what came down to somewhat overlap with my shins.

I've got the same problem. But I've survived with mediums. Probably look like I gave myself a wedgie pulling them up but it's worked out ok.

I've got a 38" to 40" waist, can someone help me on what size to wear? I can't decide between a small or extra small.

I'm also 5'8" with a 32" waist, 170 lbs. I just got Mission L3s, size S, and moving the shell down 1+1/2 inches gives me enough room while still protecting the kidneys and putting the hip pads in the right places.

I have a pair of m-1's from either 2003 or 2004, I don't recall, but I'm going to check to see if they have this ability to be raised up and down, I do remember that the shell can be unbuttoned but I didn't see the point in it back when I was wearing those.. that would be sweet if they are adjustable!, if this is the case I might ahve to bring them out of retirement, eventhough they are a nice bright royal blue..

The M1s were the first pants that I saw with that setup. Mission then included it on the new L7, L5 and L3 pants. Great feature and made it really easy to fit customers.

man, unfortunately my older m-1's aren't adjustable. its weird because you can remove the inner shell (belt, kidney pads, butt pads, front hip pads) from the outter shell (the shorts part that has the thigh pads sewn into it) as they are just attatched by buttons, however there is no extra set of holes, so I don't even know why you would want to take them apart.
