Blues win draft lottery

Recommended Posts

True. I don't think his firing would break too many hearts in the Stl community. He didn't exactly get a warm reception during Mac's retirement ceremony.

Good riddance to the Lauries.

I'd say they take a F over D because their D is a lot more solid than their forwards are once they're healthy.

I'm praying they dont pick that Defenseman...but I guess the Blues could pretty much take an O, D, or G right about now?

just curious.. how come? im not all that familiar with STL's D-man situation, but i didnt notice many big names on the blue when i saw them play last month. Big E is a great player... itll be interesting to see how he pans out.

the blues have a couple good young defenseman already playing: brewer, jackman, and backman. other than tkachuk, they have very little offense up front. although johnson might be the best player to take, they really need some offensive power. i wouldn't be suprised if they traded the pick and moved down a couple spots to pick up more draft picks.

Pleau may be gone by then. They have new ownership coming in.

Didn't Pleau work with Checketts in NY? Or did Pleau take off to STL when Checketts took over for Gutkowski? I'd like to say he took off in 97.

Isn't JD supposedly going to be GM? At least it'd get his ass off the air finally.

The rumor was president and not GM.

I think he Pleau left as Checketts was coming in. Checketts did say he was a guest at the 94 finals and had nothing to do with that team in his PC when the sale was announced.

I thought the Blues already had several high picks that they had traded for in the past.

I don't think they will trade the first pick.

They have never gotten to pick in that slot before so I say they keep it as well. But look at a scenario where say the Caps offered Semin and their first rounder which is #4 so they could grab Johnson with the #1. You get a high level prospect and at #4 you will definately get Staal, Toews, Kessel, or Frolik. This is completely hypothetical but can you really walk away from something like that? They would address their biggest need which is at forward with 2 players rather than 1. Of course I could see them trading Jackman on draft day for a top 10 pick and grab Johnson at #1 as well.

With new ownership coming on board, the number one pick is going to be a symbolic and the chance for them to put their stamp on the franchise. The top four or five are pretty well known and agreed upon and the teams picking in those spots all need a bunch of help. It wouldn't make sense for any of those teams to trade a player and a pick to move up as they all need as much help as possible. The only type of trade I could see happening is like a couple years ago when Pittsburgh gave up Mikael Samuelsson and their pick to move up a couple spots and get Fluerry. Meanwhile, Florida still got a guy they really wanted in Horton.

Jackman? It'd be a big gamble to ship off a potential franchise player for a couple of unproven kids.

Maybe they can deal Lalime for a first rounder :P

Hopefully for us, if Checketts keeps Pleau around, they will not allow him to trade Jackman. Shoulder problems or not, this kid is a stud and worth the gamble for what we pay him. Lalime's contract is up I beleive so bring on the Sanford/Bacashua show. I still can't figure out why they picked up the option on fat boy other than they were worried about how much they would have to spend on FA's this summer to reach the cap floor. Hopefully the option year does not carry the NTC and we can dump him at the deadline for prospects/picks.

I can see Washington picking Brassard. Great playmaker, and could be one of the few in the draft that could play with AO. A feeder and a scorer, that's always what you are looking for.

Than again, Toews isn't a bad playmaker either.

I think it will be one of the most interesting drafts in years. There wasn't much suspense about the picks the last few years, so it will be interesting.

maybe they will pick Brian Elliot, the #1 goalie in college hockey from UW

He has already been drafted by the Ottawa Senators with the 2nd last pick of the entire draft in 2003
