The Toronto Sun reports that Finnish Elite League club Turku TPS has signed defenceman Aki Berg, leaving an open spot on next year's roster for the Toronto Maple Leafs.

The 28-year-old defenceman, who began his playing career Turku, wanted to raise his family in his native Finland.

Berg was selected third overall by the Los Angeles Kings in the 1995 NHL Entry Draft.

He was traded to Toronto in 2001 for forward Adam Mair and a second-round draft pick which the Kings used to draft Mike Cammalleri.

This was confirmed at least a month ago, Aki said to some finnish newspaper that he quits his NHL career after the current season.

Kaberle, Cola and White are locks for the team. Then there's Harrison, Kronwall and Pilar all fighting for the other spot. Other 2 will likely be UFA signings.

What about Richardson? He played well with White...and with White's interest in jumping into the play, playing with a solid stay at home guy could be good for him.

They don't really seem interested to be honest. If he takes a big paycut maybe, but I think they want a stronger top 3, then the young guys to fill 3-6 (and they'll be ah uge imporvement over this season)
