The Best Playoff hit?

Recommended Posts

To all you die-hard hockey lovers. In your minds, what was the best hit in playoff history??

My pick is when Lindross got layed out ( 97 finals by a detriot player) and the spectrom was dead quiet. my dad says you could here a pin-drop. When he came walkin' out & they played weclome tot he jungle & the place when fu*kin'g crazy! my vote for best hit. what yours.

The Umberger one was just brutal to watch. Given, I may be partially influenced 'cause that's the one I've seen the most recently, that was definitely a solid hit.

Kapanen and Kariya are hard because it had reverse effects.

Wendel Clark thew a hit on a St. Louis Blue in the late 80's that was incredible. Very similar to Bertuzzi on Jackman a few years ago.

I can't believe we have a playoff hit topic and no one has mentioned Stevens on Lindros yet.. How can anything beat that?

Game 7 Eastern Conference finals..

Lindros skating through the blue line with his head down..

BOOOM!!

Good night Flyers..

Good night Lindros..

Lindros has never been the same player since..

You beat me to that one.

The Umberger hit this year was close to it though. Just seeing him looking around on the ice and you could tell he had no clue where he was.

I forgot about that one. You remember who he hit??

That would be Konstantinov.

The name escapes me, I was in diapers when the hit actually occured. I think it started with a B, I'll try and look it up.

Edit - It was Bruce Bell. The hit basically ruined Bell's career.

The elbow on Zednik was from McLaren.

Actually, even by the rules then it wasn't legal. Another player had touched the puck and Kariya was no longer in "posession and control" or even "posession" of the puck.

but if you watch any play-off game from back then, there is a different rule book used in the play-offs i guess that no one knows of. A rule does no good if no one calls it, and back then a late hit in the play-offs was very rarely called. The only reason people made a fuss about it was because of him laying on the ice. If he had got up right away, then it wouldn't have even been an issue.

I know what you're saying. I was just never a fan of thug hockey, as it was played in the playoffs. I like tough, hard hitting hockey but it's hard to throw a big hit and have it be legal too.

MA Bergeron putting Morrow (Edm-Dal 2004? I think) over his back was not one of the hardest hits, but probably the best textbook hipcheck I've EVER seen.
