wood sticks!

Recommended Posts

i had been using a synergy st modano, and i couldn''t get any shot on that thing. i bought a wood sherwood coffey and compared to the modano, that thing is a banana. i can't even believe i used the modo.

bottom line, i will never go composite again. it lost its pop really fast and felt like butter. it was not stiff at all. this new woody really launches the biscuits.

ever think it was the curve, not the stick, affecting your shot? and usually the composite blades are helluva lot stiffer and long-lasting compared to wooden blades, especially sherwood ones.

Weird you couldn't shoot well with the Modano. I find any Modano curve really sweet in close.

Prepare for many breakages...

but with the cost of OPS you can get 4-5 Sherwood 5030's

For me, one OPS usually lasts a lot longer than the 4-5 wood sticks.

Agreed. I was using Sherwood 9950s and the I was lucky to get through 3 games before the blade would go bad. Composite sticks are more expensive but the blades last much longer for me.

My coach is old school, played Semipro in Idaho back in the day, and he's got a Vapor XX which has lasted him forever. He says he used to go through 50 good quality woodies a season and now his XX has lasted him 2 seasons.

He's got a pretty hard shot too.

I've just ordered 12 custom sher-wood 5030 pmp's. The idea being at hockey camp i can increase my strength by using a much heavier stick than my stealth. Then once it comes to the season i'll train with the wood sticks, then switch to my stealth with the same flex and curve. in theory the shots should rocket. but by what you guys are saying these sticks wont last me till the begining of the season!

i doubt the difference in weight between the sherwood woody and the stealth will make you that much stronger. whats a sherwood weigh, twice that of a stealth? maybe if the stick was made of lead or something...

a stealth only weighs what like 305(correct me if I'm wrong) grams? A woody is atleast twice that, so I disagree with you. I think it will definitely help, because using a heavier stick will improve wrist muscles... The only problem might be adjusting back to the composite stick.

I'll 3rd that...I usually get a good 6-9 months out of a OPS...I'm lucky if I can get 2-3 weeks out of a wood stick. At $35-40/wood stick it doesn't take long to surpass the cost of a OPS and the performance is never as good IMO anyway.

Custom 5030's are extremely light for a wood stick, btw. You may not feel much of a difference just because of that...

i second that... im using 5030's i can't tell the difference between the 5030 and my st.

by the way, i used to have a ccm vector v12 woody, that thing had wood shaft/blade and carbon reinforcements, that thing was heavy as crap, like a friggin 2 by 4.

ok, i stand corrected. Idk anything about sherwood sticks(try to stay away from them), but I know my Bauer 3000 isn't light. I use it to practice and it really helps when I go from that to my synthesis.
