Rumors From Mtl

Recommended Posts

Apparently Mario Tremblay might make a return with the Habs, he would become an assistant coach to Guy Carbonneau. Mario is currently talking with the Wild because he still has a year left in his contract with them and he wants to be released by the team. An announcement should be made around the Draft that he will officially join the Canadiens.

The Habs are also talking to the Lightning and talks about a major transaction are in the weather. We all know that Bob wants Vinny and the concerned also pointed many times that Montreal is his first choice if there would be a transaction. Like we know Vinny signed a contract last year for, if I remember, he still has 3 years left on his contract so they are still negotiating the terms and other players involved. The Lightning also signed both St-Louis in Richards to huge contracts in the recent weeks so they have to brink their salary cap down wich is currently at about 44 millions.

I bet chris higgins would love it in the warm tampa weather, but the poor kid has been a Montreal fan all of his life, he's living the dream and it would be awful for him to get traded.

As much as I have hated the Montreal ever since I was a small kid I think Vinnie in that town would be a great shot in the arm for the sport.

If South East teams could stop winning the cup that would be nice as well.

Watch out for Florida in the next while, great mix of young and old but most importantly, arguably the best goalie in the league. On topic, Montreal has a lot of young talent up the middle also has produced numerous top nine forwards in the past few years. They could easily survive without Higgins and a pick or prospect.

How awesome would that be!!!

Vinny in Mtl!! I wish it gets done.

I just hope they won't get St-Louis. Mtl needs a big center, we've got way too many small players.

Yes speaking french is very important for habs fans. Reason for that, well, it's a french speaking town and province, and also because the breatest leaders in the teams history were quebecers.

But if the player performs well, people won't really care about it much.

Even if he speaks french and he doesn't play well he will still get some by the media and the fans. Look at Theo, Brisebois, Ribeiro and the list goes on and on.

That would be nice to have Vinnie in Montreal indeed. I couldn't care less if he speaks French or not.. and I'm French for the record. Yes it's a Canadian team in a French province but why people think the team should only draft, trade or sign French players is beyond me. People cry in Montreal because Koivu is the Captain and he doesn't speak French... Cry about his poor play instead lol Anyhow, if Montreal can bring in a real top center, wether he's French like Vinnie, English like lets say Thornton (I know he's not in trade rumors.. just an English Canadian player), a Russian like Datsyuk or whatever, they have to get a good first line center, a real one, not a Koivu or Ribeiro that are second line centers at best.

How would they plan on getting Vinny? Aebby, Higgins, Ryder?

I don't know much about Higgins, but unless he is a complete stud that trade sucks for TB.

Don't know if it would be Huet or Aebischer. If I had the choice in Montreal, I'd keep Aebischer. Higgins is a good intense player with some talent around the net, he could be part of the deal I guess with a pick and a prospect I guess. We're talking about Vinny after all. Tampa absolutly needs a goalie and there are some available out there but some are either too old, too expensive or not any better than Graham and/or Burke... It should be quite an interesting summer

I think Huet is a better goalie than Abi.

But he's gonna cost more money, probably around 3/3.5 mils. The reason why people see Vinny moving and not Richards or St-Louis is because he's the only one without a no-trade clause in his contract, and also because St-Louis still has 5 years remaining on his contract. Not a lot of teams want that.

Though I don't think a trade like that would happen, because in my mind, if Tampa trades Vinny, it's gonna be to a western team, if it does, I can see something like that:

Zednik-Ryder/Higgins/Plekanec(one of them, hopefully Ryder)-Abischer-First round draft pick

for

Vincent Lecavalier and one or two high rounds draft picks

I'm not sure that Huet is better than Aebischer. Lets not get carried away here. Huet had a great half season and good playoffs but that's it. He's never proven anything before that.. doesn't that remind you of Jose Theodore's dream season where he won the Vezina.. it went downhill from there right after he signed his lucrative contract based on a one season performance. That reminds me of Iginla. A great player, or should I say a great leader. He had a career high season the same year Theodore did and he too signed a huge contract only to not deliver the goods after although he wasn't as much of a let down as Theodore and Iginla is a much more complete player. I still think he too is overrated. That's why I'm skeptical when it comes to Huet. As anyone see him in interviews. He's after the big bucks, not loyalty to a team. "so do you think you'll be back with the Canadiens?" I don't know. "would you like to come back with the Canadiens?" Yes but it's all in my agent's hands....(and I will go wherever my agent lands me the most money) although he didn't say it, that's what is voice tone implied...

Not a chance. The MTL first rounder isn't great, Zednik's a puck bag. Abby will need to be part of it, I'd guess Ryder/Higgins (like I said earlier) possibly both, and then there's a chance of Sourray or another D-man since Tampa will be down on them. I think the reason we hear Vinny rumours are because of his french Canadian backround and the chance he can be traded. Richard's likely won't be moved after the contract he just signed, and nobody wants St. Louis right now (at least not as much as Vinny) so it gives the Hab media something to talk about.

If I was Feaster I would be trying to move St Louis before his no-trade kicks in on July 1.

Whatever you do Bob, don't move Higgins. The guy can do it all. PP, PK, strong on both ends of the ice, works his ass off and has many years to play. I'd love it if the Habs could pick up Vinny, but not if Higgins is in the deal. If it was Aebischer and Higgins for Lecavalier, I'd probably do it, but not Aebischer, Higgins, Ryder, Plekanec and every other young player on the team for just Lecavalier. Call me crazy, but I could see Higgins being a big time player in this league. The type of player that is key to winning championships. A Claude Lemieux type.

Yeah I agree.

I hope Gainey doesn't deal Higgins, he's their best prospect. I'd rather see both Plekanec and Ryder go than see Higgins go.

Then again, if you want Vinny, you've gotta give something good for him.

Ryder, Huet, Aebescher, Souray...trading any of them or all of them for Lecavelier wouldn't bother me, but I'd be upset if they let go of Higgins or Plekanec. Higgins put up some decent numbers, but I actually think Plekanec is the more offensively talented one - he just ran into some injury problems and didn't get the top line minutes Higgins got, but I like them both.
