Recommended Posts

Ok so here it goes, I back out of my driveway (Perfectly fine I might add). I turn the car( I live ina cul-de-dac) and switch it into Drive and then i hear a "cranking sound" and the car wont move anymore.Im thinking its the transmission or a broken belt but what do you guys think?

definitely NOT a belt or it would still move at least.

if the motor still revs up but she won't go, it's the transmission.

just put a trans in my suzuki swift.

If the belt is broken the power steering and a/c won't work. When the engine was running did you notice that it became a lot harder to turn the steering wheel? Also as domileafs28 said, the car will still move with a broken belt. The trans. is probably the problem.

Power steering hydraulicly assists the steering rack, which is why you can steer the car at low speeds with one hand.

Pull the transmission dipstick and look at the colour and smell the fluid. If it looks blackened at all or smells burnt it means it's the clutches in the tranny slipping for sure.
