Canucks and Carter are approx. a million dollars apart in their deal, Sportsnet was reporting. Front runners are Leafs and Kings, said Don Taylor on S-Pacific news.

All of the other 29 teams knew that Nonis (or whatever his name is) was just looking to get rid of him. Considering the Canucks have a cap issue, there was no way that they were going to allow Cloutier to be Luongo's backup. They got a fair deal. There was no way that they were going to get a roster player, or even a top prospect for him when it was completely obvious to everyone that the Canucks really just wanted to dump his ass.

WOW. I hope they sign him cause I dont like Detroit, and I'm a Canucks fan...

But at the same time Belfour would be stupid, seeing as they just signed osgood...

But still, a 2nd rounder and a conditional? Wouldn't some other team at least give up a 4th line grinder to replce Ruutu? Or at best, a 3rd line winger? Cauncks are in desperate need of wingers, preferably not rookies either.

The Canucks probably thought they were better off with the picks, leaving them what little cap space they had to sign who they want to what contract they want. I really doubt that they were going to get any roster player with a decent contract. Best case scenario is getting a guy like Roberts, who is old, third liner, with a hefty contract. This is most likely the best deal the Canucks could have gotten.

No way do they take on a salary without Carter signed, unless of course they don't have room for him because of Mitchell.

I was holding out hope that Leto would be back with CBus...but he sounds like a good fit with the Canes considering that he is fleet of foot.

There goes the town. Imagine him paired up with Shit-Nik. What a good laught that would provide.

Please be wrong, Theo. Please.

yeah i'm an islanders fan and i've hated 3 out of 4 signings they did. Sillinger was a really good pickup for the isles. Witt is the halfway acceptable, the needed a physical dman, but he takes way too many penalties as it is. I think they wanted Simon to get the same player as Eric Godard but can put the puck in every once in a while too.

The only way Smith can regain himself in my eyes this offseason is to make a good run at Samsonov.
