Vancouver Canucks Original Logo

Is the old canucks logo supposed to resemble the letter "C" or is it just a stick in a rink?

A friend of mine adamantly believes that the old canucks logo was created to resemble the letter "C." I just can't believe that that would've been the best "C" logo they could come up with...

It is a C. Supposed to be clever, but it is a C.

Then they "improved" it with the worst jersey in hockey...the V jersey.

A little off topic but regarding logos, does anyone know why the Minnesota Twins have a C behind the T on their ballcaps?

EDIT: Answered own question, stands for Twin Cities

When the vintage jerseys were introduced a few years ago the Canucks brought the original logo designer out for a publicity event. I was there and I heard him say that he was old school and he was taught that logos should demonstrate what business the company is in. Seeing how this was a professional hockey team a stick and a rink made sense. The letter "C" wasn't part of the plan, despite some choosing to see it that way.

Personally, I think teams should stick with one logo. Look at the classics, they don't change those, and really if you break it down Detroit has a tire with a wing sticking out of it!

That's because it's the motor city and they are the red wings

Montreal Expos is another one that is like that.

It is EMB for Expos de Montreal Baseball

I've always wondered what that was. And why we're they called the Expo's, because of expo 67'. I think

I guess it could be a shitty c.  If it is, it reminds me of this  http://cache.deadspin.com/sports/milwaukeebrewersoldlogo.jpg

There is NOTHING wrong with the old Milwaukee Brewers Logo.

It is the new one that is so lame...

No dude, I love that logo. The guy who came up with it was from my hometown. There was a big article in the paper about him not too long ago. I had no idea there was a M and B in there until I read that.

I went to school in Milwaukee, it seems everyone in WI wants them to return to the old logo.

The old logo was so clever.

I am a Wisconsinite that would put my name down on a petition to bring the old logo back. That was sweet.

The navy and white forms the stick in the rink while the surrounding green is in the shape of an almost closed C.

Yeah, It's 3 things.

1- Stick in Rink

2- Letter 'C'

3- Whales head

Thats why they incorporated the whale on the newest jersey, kind of a heritage thing. Design wise it's pretty genius considering how simple it is.

The whale head on the new jersey is because the new owners are Orca Bay, it's not a heritage thing.

Yep, but it still relates to the area beacuse of the whales in that area.

Agreed but totally unrelated to the team. That would be like the Bruins putting a lobster on their jersey.

Well, just what WOULD a canuck on a jersey look like??

The orca has specific and significant resonance in Vancouver. It is an attempt to connect locally.
